“A world where everyone has a decent place to live.” ("Habitat for humanity international,” n.d.); this is a simple statement and an amazing vision. Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1976 with a mission to address inadequate housing. They decided to build homes for those in need using a non-profit, no interest model. In fiscal year 2013 they helped 300,000 families and over 1.6 million since its inception (Habitat for Humanity, 2014a). Habitat for Humanity helps those in need of suitable housing by providing affordable, quality housing to the world. This heroic mission is a large undertaking and in order to succeed they need the assistance of those willing to help. One can simply visit Habitat for Humanity’s website to donate. If that option is not a viable one, a check can be mailed. Money can be earmarked for Habitat for Humanity International or directed to a local affiliate. Cash donations aren’t the only option to help provide adequate homes. Aid can be given by way of ReStores. “Habitat for Humanity ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently used furniture, home accessories, building materials, and appliances to the public at a fraction of the retail price.” (“Habitat for humanity international,” n.d.). The proceeds made from sale of items are used to fund the building of Habitat for Humanity homes. Benefit can be had by donating or purchasing from the stores. The most obvious way to donate your time is in the construction of one of the new homes and construction experience is not required. Under the direction and supervision of trained professionals volunteers on the job site can be put to work in a multitude of different ways. One may find themselves hanging drywall, painting walls, nailing down shingles or even serving lunch to the other volunteers. One may even have the opportunity to work side by side with the recipient of the new home. Construction isn’t the only option for volunteering time to this worthy cause. Less labor intensive options are available. There are many volunteers behind the scenes that aid in the successful completion of the mission. These volunteers complete a variety of different tasks. As stated earlier much of the material for Habitat for Humanity home comes by way of donations and volunteers help to solicit these donations. Also, many of the ReStore workers are volunteers. There is also a need for individuals with a focused background to fill positions like: government relations, accounting, administration, and marketing (“Habitat for humanity,”
