Different Ending Gwenyth Jergenson After the trial, Darry, Soda and I went to the DX, where Soda works, to get a pop and a pack of cigarettes. As I drank my Coke and my hands were shaky. We were the only ones in there besides the cashier who poured donut batter into pans and clanked them into the oven. “How are you feeling, kid,” Darry asked me as he opened his pack of cigarettes, got one out, then put the box back into his pocket. “I don’t know,” I paused. “I just really miss him,” I said, my voice cracking. Dally’s eyes filled up with tears, and Soda cleared his throat. We sat in silence drinking our pop, and then decided to go back into the car and drive home. At home I went straight to bed. “You know how his mom will treat him once he is out of the hospital. Who knows what she will do to him? Even if he’s sick I know she won’t be scared to hurt him again,” I told Darry. I think he took that into consideration but didn’t really say anything more about it for a while. Also throughout the weeks, the word about Johnny being alive has not spread yet. If I were him I would do it soon, because something like coming from the dead would be a shock for everyone. Also, people might send money to help with the hospital bills. I know that sounds a little wrong but neither Johnny’s mom or dad works and let me tell you, they’re really struggling. After a slow week, when we were visiting Johnny and he seemed to be doing better, he told us that he was getting interviewed and put in the paper of his story. Of course the hospital said that they didn’t want how he came back to life coming out, since that wouldn’t do them any good in business. Three days later the article in the paper came out.
