Gorsebrook park is a park off of Robie street that offers lots of activities and benefits to the community. It was built in the 1800s and renamed after Gorsebrook in 1824. (Landry,2005) The park comes with tennis courts, basketball court, ice hockey rink and tobogganing hills. It is a great place for walks and to play recreational supports for free, to anyone that visits the park. It is a large land mass and is covered mostly by grass along with a tree line across the sides. I chose the property because of the tennis courts and because I also did a previous assignment on the lot, where I had to volunteer to clean the park so I have sufficient knowledge of the park. Other than that, the park had all of the requirements for the assignment, so it was a good fit. Gorsebrook park has …show more content…
Food can be provided to insects and other small creatures from the vegetation in the trees and the grass across the park. The park could also provide timber from the trees, if they were to be cut down. Visitors of the park, receive virtually no to very little provisioning services. Gorsebrook park offers much more cultural services rather than provisioning services. Playing sports and going for walks helps with not only physical health, but mental health as well for anyone who is trying to turn their life around. The large amounts of grass and large trees do provide a nice atmosphere for the visitors to benefit from. The hills and huge amount of space also provide sports and winter activities such as cross country skiing and tobogganing. Furthermore, the large hills also provide an excellent view of the park and the nearby streets for personal enjoyment. Visitors may also benefit from the large amount of grass by doing outdoor yoga or having a place to sit down and relax. The size of the park and the beauty of gorsebrook park as a whole, benefits any visitor and provides great cultural

Woop woop! Is the common sound heard in Beecher Terrace (housing apartments). There are 2.3 million people locked up in the United States. Kentucky spends about fifteen billion dollars per year incarcerating individuals from Beecher Terrace. Since the 1970’s the number of people locked up in the United States has grown from 300,000 to 2.3 million. Kentucky has been the center of this prison expansion. Charles McDuffie, Christel, Demetria, and Keith Huff all have something in common. Each of these individuals are repeat offenders, grew up or lived in Beech Terrace, and have some type of mental issue.
...g to give a place for recreation, for the betterment of human welfare and how this was accomplished, just like many of the lessons we have gone covered in this course. Rittenhouse square was intended to be used for recreational purposes and that is the exact thing it is used for, whether it be a family picnicking in the park, a business man escaping from work for a quick lunch on a nearby bench, or just a general visit to look at the wonders this square holds and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. This is one place I do not believe needs any improvements, the local people have done so much to make this a great place throughout the years. This square has even been referenced as the “perfect urban neighborhood because of its excellent balance of residential and commercial uses, beautiful nature and flora, and diverse architectural styles” by Jane Jacobs.
The Gatewood house was built in 1847 and owned by some of Gallipolis’s most prominent residents, including Andrew W. Allemong and Fred M. Bovie, both successful grocers. The most famous owner of the house was writer O. O. McIntyre, who was the most widely-read columnist of his time. McIntyre grew up in Gallipolis before moving to New York and writing a column about the city and its celebrities. He bought Gatewood for his wife in 1933 and spent $50,000 renovating it. The name “Gatewood” came from Mrs. McIntyre’s mother. Unfortunately, O. O. McIntyre died five years later before he could even set foot in the house.

Sagoyewatha commonly known as Red Jacket was an outstanding orator born in New York and according to many, Red jacket was a fervent defender of the Native Americans. Several documents assert that Red jacket was very forceful and extremely vocal when it comes to defend the religious values the Native Americans against the invading oppressors. It must also be noted that Red jacket was one of the most brilliant orators of his time. Red Jacket praised the Native American culture, religion and other customs. He eloquently reject the superiority of the foreign values s imposed at them when he stated the following “Brother, the Great Spirit has made us all; but he has made a great difference between his white and red children; he has given us a different
The great park’s creator Olmsted, who “made a central concern of his career how to retain proximity with nature in what was swiftly becoming a nation of cities” (p. 11-12), designed the park in 1858 with Calvert Vaux in hopes to eliminate the “‘social failures:’ the swelling ranks of criminals and prostitutes, of the alcoholic, insane, diseased, and the poor” (p. 11-12), but was futile instead. After the “rural retreat” (p. 12) of Central Park was completed by the predominantly Irish immigrant workforce -- intending for the park to be service to all to escape the urban lifestyle -- few were able to go. Averaging approximately 30,000 visitors a day for a total of 10 million in 1871, the park catered largely to uptown, wealthy inhabitants. The park was too expensive for the non-prosperous classes to travel from downtown, far from their work, to enjoy the
Throughout this research paper, the discussion topic deals with whom or what Berea College should serve. Sources will be used to discuss the Appalachian region, Christian colleges, the Berea territory, and the history of Berea college. The topic of discrimination will also be discussed mainly focused upon what it is, how it can be used for good, and if it is okay to practice. Berea should primarily serve students who come from poor economic background regardless of their race, region, or religion because students might not have the same opportunities at another institution. Berea College should devote most of its acceptance percentage to the lower-class students of Appalachia. With the remainder percentage, Berea should accept lower class students
Within the Trinity evangelical church they use Halloween, more known as a pagan holiday, as an opportunity to reach and commit young people to Christ. They do this with the creation of the Hell House. As much as the Hell House is a fright tactic they will argue otherwise and claim the haunted house to be for educational purposes. Each Halloween they begin the Hell House by putting a think group together where they share ideas and work to create a show that fulfills their religious purposes. After ideas are taken scripts are written and rewritten. This process was shown as well as the auditions that were held for these roles in Hell House. The majority of these acting roles for Hell House are made for young adults at Trinity’s private school within the church. After all the building and preparation that goes into the Hell House the viewer finally gets to see the reality Trinity Church worked so hard to portray. When you see the ins and outs of what the church does to scare the people who come through, as a viewer you are mortified. Their lines they use are vulgar and the scenes are personal. At some moments all one can do is wide eyed watch in horror not out of fright, but shock. While other times the class laughed out of astonishment. Their attempts are not out of love like they claim for God’s children, but

There is no better feeling in this world than to be outdoors with nature, especially when there are numerous activities to dabble in. Often times people take for granted the sentimental value that they can experience by simply walking through a park. God created the Earth to be beautiful and peaceful, and people need to keep it that way. I have always shared a love of the outdoors with my dad and my brother. We have gone on numerous camping, hiking, fishing, and star-gazing trips ever since I can remember. It was no surprise to me when my dad decided to buy a lake house on Hyco Lake, right outside of Roxboro. We got a really good deal on the house, so my dad decided that Hyco Lake was the perfect spot.

The most important paper anyone will receive in any course will be given out on the first day of class. This paper is called a syllabus. According to the dictionary, the definition of a syllabus is an academic document that communicates course information and defines expectations and responsibilities. Some examples of what is on a standard syllabus are due dates, rules of the class and/or school, expected course schedule, required materials for the class, information about the instructor, where the class meets and at what time, and information about what to do if you miss class. Instructors spend a lot of time making a syllabus for their class and expect students to read and pay attention to what is included on it. They give out syllabi to help their students succeed in class by telling them what to expect in their course.
Growing up in a massive neighborhood magnificent. My neighborhood flooded with kids around my age to hang out with. Occupying the edge of this neighborhood was a large park where the neighborhood’s kids and I would spend most of our time eliminating their boredom. When this park would not satisfy our needs, there were
Parks are a healing place. They function as a place for people to think and be alone. They are a great place to enjoy beauty while relaxing. Parks are located in ideal spots, such as in the middle of towns and cities, where people can gain access to them very easily. My swing in the park in Bellevue holds many memories for me. Memories of past conversations and even friends that have moved away. Being alone on my swing also helped me in many difficult situations. The time alone gave me time to think and I think sometimes my family found me easier to deal with, because I was not bringing my stressful life home to them. Sitting on the swing, watching the boats go by, and seeing nature's true beauty cut back much of the stress that was building up inside me. I found the swing to be my healing power.
