Comparative Essay On June 6, 2014, the Golden Popcorn Statue was awarded to the romance filled drama The Fault in Our Stars, starring Shailene Woodley, Ansel Elgort, and Natt Wolff. This award is distributed at the MTV Movie Awards Ceremony, held annually, and the winners are determined by the public’s votes. The movie was directed by Josh Boone and tells a story of two cancer-stricken teens who are doomed even when it comes to love. Although the movie is meant to be a tearjerker, the characters keep the audience engaged with their everlasting optimism. The overall story line shows that falling in love while being terminally ill has its benefits after all but out of the two reviews given by Nashawaty and Scott, Nshawaty depicted the movie best by giving his honest opinion.

Augustus Waters may just be too good to be true! He takes Hazel on picnics and entertains her by reading her favorite book but he also made the trip to Amsterdam possible! What more could a girl ask for? This may be the only downfall in the film. In his “manic wish-fulfillment adorableness, he’s eager to please as a litter of cocker-spaniel puppies. It’s as grating as it is hard to buy” (Nashawaty, Chris). Lastly, while Scott sees Hazel Grace as the main character in the film, Nashawaty sees it otherwise, believing Augustus Waters to be the main character. “The main character-whose voice-over narration, drawn verbatim from Mr. Green’s pages, frames the story: [Ms. Hazel Grace Lancaster]” (Scott, O.A.). Nashawaty also suggests that it is a “tragic love story [while it is also a] perfect and irresistible fantasy.” Throughout the film, he expected something tragic to happen to Hazel, when instead it was Augustus’s life who had ended
