Colombia is known for their exportation of coal and oil. This has attracted the interest of foreign nations, which has led to Colombia gaining new trading partners. Globalization is defined as integration between countries through products and ideas. Through Colombia’s exportation of coal and oil they have been able to integrate themselves into the international community. Integration into the global market has brought new investors to Colombia, some of these investors include: the United States, China, and Spain. Due to the increase of investors into the oil and mining industries the economy has been relatively stable and has increased jobs for citizens. Drug cartels are transporting cocaine and marijuana to Mexico and the United States. Drug cartels are generating a large sum of money by trafficking these illegal drugs, which is harming the economy because the cartels are receiving all of the money and not the country of Colombia. Another problem arising is the violence associated with the cartels. Cartels are instilling fear into the citizens of Colombia, which is hindering their day to day lives. Another problem arising from globalization is violence from the terrorist group FARC. Coal miners are working long days earning little money. FARC believing foreign companies are not benefiting the citizens of Colombia, they have launched attacks against coal companies. Considering that only 6% of Colombia’s economy comes from agriculture eliminating subsidies to farmers would not change much if any of their economy. Colombia will not agree to reduce carbon emissions by 15% because their main export is coal. If they have to reduce their carbon emissions that means less coal production. For a country whose main profit is coal they will never agree to that. In conclusion in order for Colombia to fully benefit from globalization they need to contain the violence and ensure their workers are treated
