“I am not dead yet!” Oh if only that were at least partially true for Earth. The truth is, the Earth is slowly overheating. It’s called Global Warming. It’s caused by greenhouse gases, which come from fossil fuels. Since fossil fuels are a main source of energy, must the world give up energy? No. Because thanks to alternative energy sources, there are other options. And these can change a community. Hydrogen energy and geothermal energy would bring many benefits to California. Hydrogen would work well in California because there are already so many stations there. Geothermal energy would work there because it is best used along the Ring of Fire, which California is on. And together they can both work in California and provide a better source of energy for the community. California is the ideal location for both hydrogen and geothermal fuels. There is no specific …show more content…
California is perfect for hydrogen energy because there are already so many gas stations in California that provide a hydrogen fuel option. In fact, there are 33 stations in California already! That means adding more shouldn’t be that hard. And since California is on the Ring of Fire, it works for geothermal energy, which requires heated water from inside the earth. California is a perfect location for that, as there is already plants for geothermal energy in that state. Together they could work perfectly. The conditions that are needed for a hydrogen fuel plant are proximity to a hydrogen plant. Louisiana and Texas are two other places in the United States that have many hydrogen fuel plants. As for geothermal energy, it needs to be in a place where very warm water can be extracted from the Earth’s crust. Some examples of such place would be anywhere around the Ring of Fire or in Iceland. By having these two energy

California is the third largest state in the US in terms of area after Alaska and Texas. Its climate are mostly cool, rainy in the winter and hot, dry in the summer. Those climate conditions are very suitable for avocado which specifies as a dense and green tree. In California, avocado can easily reach its flushes due to the warm and sunny weather.
Instilling this new way of energy usage into off-grid communities will inevitably increase the state of living for those in cities and other well-populated areas. The change to renewable energy sources could drastically lower the pollutants currently being dispersed into the atmosphere by coal mines and other harmful power options, increasing the supply of renewable energy would allow us to replace carbon-intensive energy sources and significantly reduce U.S. global warming emissions. a 25 percent by 2025 national renewable electricity standard would lower power plant CO2 emissions 277 million metric tons annually by 2025—the equivalent of the annual output from 70 typical (600 MW) new coal plants (“Benefits of Renewable Energy Use”). Electricity production accounts for more than one-third of U.S. global warming emissions, with the majority generated by coal-fired power plants.
...Kroeker designed the first commercial geothermal heat pump to heat the Commonwealth Building in Portland, Oregon and demonstrated it in 1946. In 1960, Pacific Gas and Electric began operation of the first successful geothermal electric power plant in the United States at The Geysers in California. The original turbine lasted for more than 30 years and produced 11 MW net power. The binary cycle power plant was first demonstrated in 1967 in the U.S.S.R. and later introduced to the U.S. in 1981. This technology allows the generation of electricity from much lower temperature resources than previously. (Wikipedia, 2011)
In nature hydrogen is always found combined with other elements, which means it has to be manually made by passing an electric current through water to form hydrogen and oxygen. There is a tremendous amount of energy involved in splitting the molecules to free the hydrogen from its captor. The current method of producing hydrogen from water is through the use of oil and coal. Oil and coal are the two main resources the world is trying to cut back on. The main purpose of using hydrogen is lost when considering the actual manufacturing process of hydrogen contributes a significant amount of carbon dioxide. When the big coal and oil companies start investing their profits in hydrogen, something has gone awry. Each company sees its future limited and wants to ensure their survival. Since they have the most money they will be the main producer of hydrogen. The hydrogen economy will benefit the mining and oil industry at the cost of the clean-energy dream.
There are many types of energy sources in Louisiana that produce natural gas, coal, solar, and biomass. Out of these, petroleum and natural gas are the largest producers of electricity in Louisiana. Together, coal and natural gas make up 78%% of Louisiana’s energy. Actually, coal makes up 21% and natural gas 57% of this states energy. So this means that natural gas and coal are very important to Louisiana’s energy production and consumption. The four types of energy consumers are industrial, residential, commercial, and agricultural.
In 2016 Texas produced about one third of the nation’s crude oil, more than any other single state created. About 25 percent of the country’s natural gas reserves are located in our state which is used to produce about 50 percent of the state’s electricity. Power plants fueled by coal produced about 25 percent of the state’s electricity, and wind power accounted for about 12.5 percent. Right under wind power is the increasing use of solar panels for electricity. As the world turns to more renewable sources of energy, the state also has the potential to increase the use of hydroelectric and geothermal resources (U.S. Energy Information Administration, 2018).
One of the big stalls on geothermal plants in Texas has been the fact that in order to get to a source hot enough you would have to dig deep in order to hit a site. We are proposing that we use existing drilling sites in the Permian Basin that have been used up and no longer needed for oil. If we can find the deepest sites with the highest temperatures we can use that and continue drilling deeper if needed. This would make these sites more economical as well since it does not need to be closed up. This way the need to find a geyser would not be needed since there is energy that exists. Setting up the plant is not much different from a normal coal power plant. The advantage is that it uses energy from heat from the earth which also give it more
The year is 2200. The world is going through a fossil fuel shortage. Oil reserves are almost completely consumed and it is becoming impossible to find new fossil fuel sources. Not prepared for this event to occur, The United States, has no alternative options. As a result of the oil shortage, the standard of living deteriorates. Heat in homes, supermarkets full of food, and transportation, all basic necessities taken for granted, will be depleted because fossil fuels are used to power almost everything. The key to the prevention of this future is renewable energy. Unfortunately the support for the use of renewable energy is weak and ineffective. Unless the US puts forth effort to research and promote the use of renewable energy to consumers, conversion from fossil fuels to renewable energy will no longer be an option.
Electricity is one of the biggest outputs of geothermal energy. It was first recorded to produce electricity in 1904 in Italy. There are now geothermal power plants in operation in New Zealand, Japan, Iceland, the US and elsewhere.
Most of the world energy is currently met by the utilisation of fossil fuels, which leads to deteriorating environmental problems such as excessive atmospheric carbon dioxide levels. In Ireland, most electricity is now generated by burning fossil fuels such as peat. Coal and natural gas. Natural has is currently the largest contributor at 45% (Dineen, et al., 2016). Coal is next at 14% and peat at 9%. One way of improving thus would be further implement renewable methods of producing electricity. Wind, solar and geothermal energy are methods which could be implemented. Geothermal energy has may advantages over wind or solar energy as a renewable source because the earths heat remains essentially constant. Therefore, geothermal is reliable and inexhaustible. It is not affected by the climate or weather like wind and solar energy. It is also more cost-effective as the heat pumps can be operated at a relatively low cost. The water and steam used in the geothermal system are put back into the earth so there is no waste. Geothermal plants would be environmentally friendly as they do not burn fuel to generate electricity. They release little or no carbon dioxide and other harmful compounds (Craddock, 2008). It has been predicted that by 2070, 60% of all the world's energy will come from renewable energy sources (Craddock, 2008). This would greatly reduce the burning
The most popular options have relied on surface processes like wind, water, and sunlight. Solar, wind, and water power plants are limited to specific locations where their natural resources can be used. Unfortunately, these three alternative clean resources are not as easily accessible across the country. The geothermal gradient reaches temperatures suitable for geothermal production purposes within the first few kilometers of the continental crust. This means geothermal sites can be built in each region of the United States.

Global warming is an extremely important and troubling aspect of the world’s current situation. This is due to the fact that the majority of the world’s energy production is from non-renewable energy sources, which are energy sources that either can not be naturally replenished or require thousands of years to be restored. Based on our current energy usage growth rates, there are an estimated 100 years left before our natural resource reserves are exhausted. (Non Renewable Natural Resources: How Much Is Left, Environmental Thinker) China alone consumes nearly as much coal as the combined usage of coal from the rest of the world. (US Energy Information Administration, China Consumes Nearly as Much Coal as the Rest of the World Combined) There is visible evidence of this happening with the increasing pollution levels. Carbon Dioxide and Methane pollution levels in the world reached a record high in 2012 and are 260% higher than the pre-industrial levels. (UN: CO2 Pollution Levels at a Record High, John Heilprin) Converting our world into a more renewable energy dependent society is the most advantageous and likely method for preserving our dwindling fossil fuel supply while also protecting the world that we call home.
The world that we live into today affords us the expectation that the flip a switch will turn the lights on. As populations increase and developing nations undergo dramatic economic growth, this energy demand will only continue to grow. The International Energy Agency (IEA) believes that “the world’s energy needs could be 50% higher in 2030 than they are today” (ElBaradei). Given this projected growth, it is necessary for world leaders must take action to secure the energy supply. Meaning that world leaders need to start seriously considering an alternative to non-renewable energy sources. “In 2012, the United States generated about 4,054 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity. About 68% of the electricity generated was from fossil fuel (coal, natural gas, and petroleum), with 37% attributed from coal” (U.S. Energy Information Administration). The fossil fuels that are used to supply over half of our country’s energy are in finite supply and are increasing in price to astronomical heights.
