The novel, 1984, composed by George Orwell, presents a frightening picture, where one government has complete control of the general population. The story takes place in London, England. The government that is made in the novel is controlled by Big Brother. In 1984, the protagonist, Winston, really despises the totalitarian government, that tries to control all aspects of his life. So many freedoms that we all need to live a happy and healthy life are being stripped away from the citizens of Oceania. Like the freedom to speak freely, the freedom of thought, and freedom of emotion. Human relationships are impossible to sustain because the state does not allow relationships. They are simply "comrades" who are in command of Big Brother.

It was mandatory for children to join the youth league which was similar to the Hitler youth. The Hitler youth was a program that brainwashed the children of Germany to love Hitler and become devoted future members of the Nazi party.
In chapter two of this novel, George Orwell notes, “On the contrary, they adored the Party and everything connected with it. The songs, the processions, the banners, the hiking, the drilling with dummy rifles, the yelling of slogans, the worship of Big Brother — it was all a sort of glorious game to them” (Orwell 13).
There is no family structure the children of Oceania are brainwashed, and trained to spy on their parents, and to report any deviant behavior. Children in this society know that they are extremely powerful, and can abuse that power by threatening individuals around them.
One good example would be the Parson’s family. Mr. and Mrs. Parson were afraid of their kids. It was very easy for their children to turn either one of them into the thought police without a shred of evidence. In 1984, Mr. Parsons daughter turns him in to Big Brother for saying, “Down with big brother” in his sleep. Instead of being upset that his daughter betrayed him he tells Winston that he is extremely proud of her. He even feels grateful for being caught. He tells
