September 2015. The school year has commenced, new students have filled the hallways and the classes of Jules-Verne. This year we have welcomed a new comer, Genoise Etman from the CSF school in Kelowna, École de l’Anse-aux Sable. Genoise a grade 10 student, is full of inspiration, dedication and perseverance and is ready to begin her high school journey with full of enthusiasm and energy. Genoise has shown a great success in many areas, she has been a dancer since a very young age, she practiced ballet,tap.jazz and lyrical, although she loves to dance she has put her passion aside to concentrate on her education to be able to follow her dream to become a medical doctor in the future. Rachel Dein is a London Based artist, who studied Fine Arts at Middlesex University . She is most famously known for her tiles made of cement and plaster featuring molds of flowers. She currently runs and owns the Tactile Studio in North London to support herself and her three children. Before setting up her own studio, but after going to art school, she decided to take up an apprenticeship at The Royal Opera House and later branched out to other theaters to continue her prop making career including The English National Opera, The West End Theaters, London Transport Museum and Selfridges Christmas windows. Her time in prop making allowed her to explore her love of theatre, film, and opera while expanding her knowledge of 3d design. She also enjoys gardening, which is where she has gotten some of the materials for her craft.
Ellen Renshaw House was only nineteen years old when she begins to write about her experiences in Knoxville. Originally she was born in Savannah, Georgia where her father would work as a customs collector and a trade Commissioner. Everything would soon change as her mother Frances Fannie House began to become ill. Her family then for her mother’s health moved to Marietta. Here Samuel Crawford House will make himself a name as a Planter and an owner of slaves in the town. Their stay in Marietta does not last long, as Ellen’s brother Sam moves to Knoxville to do business. Quakers were one of the first groups to practice equality in men and women. After she finished schooling she became assistant teacher of her school. After 4 years of teaching, she moved to Philadelphia to be with her family. Her life was centered around the Quaker church. She supported abolition. She refused to buy products from slave labor. In 1833 she attended a male antislavery convention. After the convention she founded the Female Antislavery Society. By 1837 she was a speaker at women’s antislavery meetings and conventions. Shirley Chisolm was born Shirley Anita St. Hill on November 30, 1924, in Brooklyn, New York to parents Charles St. Hill and Ruby Seale. Chisolm was raised by her grandmother in Barbados and returned to the United States during her early adolescent years. From an early age, Chisolm was taught the importance of an excellent education. Subsequently, Chisolm graduated from high school and decided to further her education.
Harold Shipman was a British middle-aged family doctor turned a serial killer, and he is believed to have killed at least 236 patients over a twenty-four year period (Saferstein, 2015). Eliza Farnham was known for her talent in writing which made her national. Mrs.Farnham passed away from consumption in New York in the year of 1864 on the 15th of December at the age of 49. She grew up with foster parents from the age of four. When Eliza turned 15 she moved in with her uncle, and attended the Albany Female Academy. In 1835, Eliza Burhans moved in with a sister who was married in Tazewell county, Illinois. During the 18 century, Cornelius and Mary Wood Burhans gave birth to Eliza Burhans in November 17, 1815. Edward Jenner is often regarded as the “Father of Immunology” for his development of the smallpox vaccine. His remarkable discovery has laid the foundation for future scientists working with immunizations. When Melissa entered St.Jean de Brebeuf last week, the petite 14 year old girl felt overwhelmed in the unfamiliar high school environment. "As soon as I walked into the school, I was nervous," Melissa said. "Although with my surprise, I was welcomed with a companion. I felt like I'd been a returning student." She explained to us that “the grade 9 orientation was an entertaining and a lively event for the new grade 9 students. It was finally the first day of school; I was excited yet nervous. I hoped I would be able to make new friends. The first time I saw the schools name I thought it was the strangest name I’ve ever heard or read, therefore I found it hard to pronounce it in the beginning. The schools’ floors had painted black paw prints, which stood out on the white tiled floor. Once you walk through the doors the office is to the right. The office seemed a bit cramped, since it had so many rooms in such a small area.
