People are imposed with social and gender norms from birth. Girls are expected to like dolls and anything pink or sparkly, while boys are expected to play with action figures and like colors that are considered “masculine.” Social norms are the rules of behavior that are considered acceptable in a certain group or society. Young men are not allowed to freely express their feelings the way a girl can because they are expected to be tough. Some people do not mind the common social tendencies, but many people feel as though they are deprived of their right to live their lives to the fullest.
