In the story,” Seventh Grade” by Gary Soto, Victor learns that his embarrassing moments lead to bad things. In paragraph number 18 and 19 it states that Teresa, the girl victor likes, smiles at him and says hi and victor says yeah that’s me back to her.This proves of how Victor got embarrassed because he should of said something different back like hi or hey.This is why he embarrassed himself in front of Teresa.In the paragraphs 36 through 60, Victor embarrasses himself by trying to speak french to empress Teresa but it sounds like he is speaking gibberish.This shows that he is embarrassing himself by acting like he can speak french, but only the teacher knows that isn’t real french. He did not want to go and leave his family and especially his mother behind. When he first got to school, he did not want to let go of his mother, and it took the teacher to pull him off from his mother in order for him to take his seat. He was not allowed to speak Spanish at school with the other kids. His teacher hated Mexicans, thought they were dirty and ugly, and how they will bring knives and guns to school. Then Victor tries to run away from home instead of facing the punishment from his parents. One his way of running away, he meets these two cowboys and he is so fascinated with them, he tells them they can stay at his family’s ranch. When he talks to his father and his father decided to let the cowboys stay at the ranch. When Victor learns that the cowboys told his father about him running away and how it deeply upset his father. The cowboys were surprised because usually the white kids are the ones who always run away how the Mexican kids the ones are known as good people. The story then jumps to when Victor started going back to school where he had a teacher who was actually nice to him and cared about him. He was very good at mathematics, but was not very good at reading and would try anything to get out of it. His teacher started to notice that he was not reading aloud and how he was paying some the other students a nickel in order to get out of reading. His teacher thought since he was so good at math he would be able to catch up with his reading by the end of the year. Yet, when the end of the year ended up rolling around his teacher had to call his parents to let them know that Victor had to be held back a year. Yet, he father ended up becoming angry that the teacher did not even truly know his son and how his teachers kept pushing them around. Then he asked how much it would take to buy off the teacher to let Victor go to the next
Victor not being able to read made him dread going to school because his teacher would require students to read out loud. Victor states how having to read out loud was not his only fear but many other things as well. He was also extremely fearful of facing the world without his mother. That is another reason victor also hated staying at school because his mother could not stay with him. After a while, Victor learned soon enough to adapt to being without his mother, realizing that everything would be Ok. He also began to make friends at school, which helped him be a bit more comfortable at school. One of the boys he hung out with the most was his friend Ramón. This boy Ramon inspired and motivated Victor to become brave like him. In Chapter four we see an example of this where Victor states “I quit crying, just like that. My God, I couldn’t believe it, this boy Ramon had to be the bravest boy I had ever seen” (Villaseñor 64).Victor makes it clear about how he admires Ramon for his bravery and also refers to Ramon’s personality as his motivation for courage. I learned how Victor in this book changes from a young fearful boy to a brave gritty young man proud of his Mexican roots. Fear is a great motivator.

Gary Soto, who graduated from high school with a 1.6 GPA, is the author of thirty-two books including eleven poetry collections. Soto was pinned by a girl in a high school wrestling match, so he changed his interest to poetry. Soto's highest honor came from a Southern teacher who named her dog after him. The teacher's dog was, of course, a chihuahua because of Soto's ethnicity. Gary Soto's poetry focuses on his life experiences: notably his love life, and the poverty in his hometown. The first book Soto read was Nerdlandia. Martin, who is a nerd, is heartbroken. Freddie, Tito, and Joaquin, who are gangsters, try to cheer him up. On Saturday, September 9th, 2017, at 2034 hours, I was dispatched to 3217 Grouper Rd in reference to a domestic violence incident that had just occurred.
As the story begins, the reader is immediately told of Victor’s noble stature in society as he states “I am by birth a Genevese, and my family is one of the most distinguished of that republic” (Shelly 14). His family was constantly travelling when he was younger and his parents devoted all their affection towards him. As he grew older, his desire for knowledge leads him to travel abroad so he could earn the best education. Victor was born into a happy, enjoyable, and wealthy life, but still strived to excel at everything in his life. The passion he expresses towards bettering himself in the means of knowledge connects the reader to him. Victor grows up in school both on the American Indian Reservation, then later in the farm town junior high. He faces serious discrimination at both of these schools, due to his Native American background. This is made clear in both of the schools by the way the other students treat him as well as how his teachers treat him. His classmates would steal his glasses, trip him, call him names, fight him, and many other forms of bullying. His teachers also bullied him verbally. Rossy was a lonely child who has one little brother Miguel but she always felt lonely, her mother and father left both children in Dominican Republic to move to United States looking for a better life. While Rossy was growing she was hearing and seeing things that no one else couldn’t see or hear but her.
Victor being the stubborn individual that he is, could still not be swayed from studying what he wanted. This only pushed him to read further into this category of the supernatural and begin reading from authors such as Albert Magnus and Paracelsus. Victor was even quick to state “My dreams were therefore undisturbed by reality; and I entered with the greatest diligence into the search of the of the philosopher’s stone and the elixir of life” (23). His stubborn nature becomes more evident when Victor finally gets to Ingolstadt for his education. After being criticized for only studying those authors by M. Krempe, a professor that Victor is to study under, and refuses to take the recommendation from Krempe to study other authors. Victor is quick to say, “I returned home, not disappointed, for I had long considered those authors useless whom the professor had so strong reprobated; but I did not feel much inclined to study the books which I procured at his recommendation” (28). His constant stubbornness won’t even allow him to take suggestions from a Professor that he is supposed to learn from. This of course allows for bad choices to be made and just goes to show how Victor lacks compassion for the people around
At the age of seventeen, victor leaves his family and attends a university at Ingolstadt. Like a mad scientist, and to the knowledge of no one, he locks himself away in his apartment and after two years of obsessive labor he creates his monster. Alex Mendoza seems just like a normal junior student that attends the famous, High school Blue . He’s the captain of the swimming team and he hangs with the same group of friends since he was in the 7th grade .Although he’s not so social , he’s well known . But there is one thing he has the just his mother knows . He has a gift of hypnotic eyes he could use to hypnotize people . Although he doesn’t really use it , he will always have it .
It was about one-thirty in the morning in the town of Homestead Michigan. The almost florescent light of the moon bouncing off the fresh puddles that covered the ground. The grass and trees were covered in a thin layer of water causing every little beam of light to reflect back up. Anyone who may have been outside at this time would have without double, smelled the mix of fresh dirt and night crawlers. As the moonlight started to fade away through the cloud cover, three buses made there way through the streets and parked in front of HHS, the local high school.
There was a girl named Kandy, she was 15 years old. Her life was extremely boring, all she ever did was go to school, go on her computer, eat and sleep. She spent all summer on her computer. She was really good with HTML and spent her free time making web sites. Kandy didn't have many friends and rarely talked to guys because she was shy and unconfident about her looks. That's why she went into chat rooms. She made a web site with pictures of herself on it and told people in chat rooms to go there. A lot of people would tell her how pretty she was and some would say she was ugly. That made her feel awful. When anyone would say anything nice to her, she wouldn't believe them and think that they were just making fun of her. She only had one real friend that she could talk to, her name was Ang.
