L. G. B. T. plus, which is an acronym for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and other marginalized groups. While people have been protesting for homosexual rights, we have been ignoring the other oppressed sexualities that exist in this world. Asexuality, or otherwise known as the absence of interest in sexual activities, is one of the most dehumanized groups in the LGBT+ community. Social expectations have created and distorted people’s views on asexual people, thus introducing the idea that it is a ‘phase’. This creates the idea of asexual erasure and therapy, which forces those who identify as asexual to question their sexuality.

Asexual people, or otherwise known as aces, are subject to several stereotypes that are not true. What if you, a normal heterosexual person were to be shunned and thought of as less human. Some stereotypes include; ‘you’re just gay/straight but you don’t want to admit it!’ ‘Asexual people must not have any interest in being in an emotionally connected relationship!’ ‘You must’ve had some kind of trauma to have to identify as asexual.’ ‘It’s just because you’ve never been in a proper relationship before, once you get into …show more content…

In Angela Tucker’s documentary that was made in 2011, it explores the conclusion that asexual people are thought to be no more than simple organisms, like amoeba or moss, and the assumption that asexuality does not exist at all. As I have said before, MacInnis & Hodson’s survey has found that majority of people believe that asexual people are heartless, unrestrained and less sophisticated.
