Specific purpose: To persuade my audience that the NCAA should change the football playoff bracket.
Thesis: The NCAA needs to change the way the division one football playoff bracket is set up.
Introduction:
There is an obvious problem if teams are undefeated and only get a bowl game, and not a chance to even show that they are the best team in College football. UCF finished last season 13-0 and after winning the AAC conference they were giving a bowl game. They played Auburn and won, who previously defeated Alabama and Georgia who both contend for the national championship.

The initial problem for the Playoff format for college football is baised seeding into playoffs, it is slowly changing and progressing through the years.
The NCAA introduced the BCS or Bowl Championship Series system in 1998.
The BCS system was very statistical and needed a lot of people to decide on who the number one seed could be and the rest of the seeding.
It was a series of bowl games called the Orange, Fiesta, Sugar, and the Rose bowl.
It had six different computers running six different formulas, and with the coaches poll thrown in there, and also something called the Harris Interactive poll, It is a team of electors that get in a room and talk about all the possibilities for the potential seedings. According to Inskeep.
BCS system declares a one and a two seed and then has them play and that’s the unified National Championship.
This caused major controversy in 2003. According to Steve Inskeep, host of the Morning Edition and Up First National public radio and American journalist.
They later abandoned the BCS in 2013.

Thesis: The Bowl Championship Series (BCS) formula has been used to determine the top twenty-five teams in NCAA Division I college since 1998. Many think this system is inadequate and should be changed. The alternative is a playoff system that would give more of the top teams a chance to be named the NCAA football National Champion.
Every March college basketball fans and million alike anxiously await the start of the NCAA tournament. For a three week period from the middle of March to the beginning of April the entire country is engulfed in college basketball’s premier event. The tournament consists of 68 of the best teams in the game all competing for one title, NCAA National Champions. Colleges and Universities all across the country compete bringing students, alumni, and fans alike all carefully watching, waiting for that one bracket breaking upset or spectacular buzzer beater. It is truly the one sporting event that draws the attention of the entire nation. Although many people may argue that the NCAA tournament and March Madness is just another sporting event, it is a widely popular competition that is viewed by millions of fans and even non-sport viewers year after year.
The best college football rivalries intrigue us to a point that we are on the edge of our seats for the entire game, but many people do not know exactly what makes these games so unique. Many rivalries are based off of supremacy in a certain state or in a region. Factors such as trash talking, championship contention, or recruiting implications can play into these games that appear on the schedule every year. There are games in which private schools battle it out against public schools to prove that they have earned the right to go against the public school on the gridiron year in and year out. Sometimes teams play to simply win an oversized, metal stick to keep all year. All of these can contribute to the fans paying their money or tuning in to watch these games in which history is renewed and there is a chance for more history to be made.

The Electoral College system can be briefly described as a system where voters are able to vote for candidates(electors) on election day. Do you think picking your 4 favorite types candy is hard? Wouldn’t it be easier if you where able to chose your favorite 8 types of candy? Well right now it is like that with college football playoff system. During the BCS era they had one game between the 2nd and 3rd ranked teams and the winner would play the number 1 ranked team for the national championship. All the brad new FBS does is add one more game therefore only adding one more team, so instead of just adding one more team to the mix, this is still unfair. What they should add 5 teams to the 3 team mix to make the system fair. The recently removed BCS only allowed the top 3 teams to compete for a national championship but the new FBS is allowing 4 however, this is still a problem. These really affect small schools because “Undefeated mid-major schools and one-loss teams from major conferences still likely to miss the playoffs” (Douglas). The national championship is the championship of all college sports in every sport, and every year every college team in and a few out of the nation tries to compete for the national title. However some undefeated schools due to “easy schedules” do not get the same chance as one or two loss big schools that have slightly tougher schedules. In the NCAA basketball tournament “March Madness” over 60 teams get to play and compete for the national championship and they play multiple games every day so there should be no reason for football to not be able to have at least 8 teams instead of just 4. One feature that makes the format better is the larger number of teams. Now why there are many more college teams than NBA teams, the NBA could still incorporate more teams than they do. People over the years have shown much more interest in the college playoff system. . In the NCAA March Madness finals last year the average attendance during the final four was 71.875 people. In the NBA Finals last year the average attendance during the Finals Series was 20,079 people. Even though the Final Four had a bigger venue, you can clearly see the huge difference in the attendance. The fans of the NBA teams who don’t get a shot at the playoffs are losing interest and the NCAA does a good job of keep their fans interested. Another feature that makes the NCAA format better than the NBA format is the number of games. The NBA format has 4 rounds of different 7 game series. The NCAA tournament has a 64-team bracket where the matchups only play one game against one another. This allows for a more exciting and unpredictable outcome because smaller schools might be able to pull off that one miracle upset, but in the NBA playoffs if the underdog wins they still have to win 3 more games. This process also helps narrow down the large numbers that were made by the popular votes, into a smaller number that is easier to work with for electing the President. Some states use a system called “winner-takes-all”, which is another system that is connected with the Electoral College. Some students may have medical conditions, family situations that don't allow them to participate in organized school sports, or they simply may not have the time.

By having registered so many players, it’s not surprising that this sport has more fans than any other sport worldwide. Every team looks for a player that moves the ball, and that creates plays to score. This means a person that pass the ball through the entire game. To pass the ball in a proper way is one of the main skills a player needs to play soccer. Passing the ball, keeps the game going. Without being able to pass the ball accurately to your teammates, more than likely your team won’t be able to score a goal. The key for passing is to keep things simple. This means passing the ball to your nearest teammate that is not marked by an opponent.
