Provided by numerous federal agencies, public drinking water fluoridation is an exercise that has found widespread use in the U.S as well as other countries in the world. Through the prevention of tooth decay, fluoridation has been acknowledged as one of the most momentous disease-preventive measures taken in the last century. Fluoridation proponents see this implementation as an effective, safe, and cost efficient method to bring health to the general population. Nonetheless, those who oppose these views regard fluoridation of water to be a sort of mass medication and find it to be an immoral activity. On top of that, many support their views with unreliable evidence that links the practice of fluoridation to mouth difficulties such as enamel fluorosis and other illnesses. Water fluoridation should continue to be the leading method in the distribuition of fluoride to the general population because of its positive effects on the human body.
Beginning in the mid 20th century, many exploratory studies were conducted to express that a certain amount of fluoride in water leads to a decrease in cavities among humans. Being nearly 60 years old, the tests used were rather flawed and this has led to public debate over its safety and effectiveness. Water fluoridation soon emerged as a public health priority and has been heavily promoted ever since. The American Dental Association has stated their support for water fluoridation for its safe and effective way to prevent tooth decay (Fluoride & Fluoridation), but; many oppose this view.
Despite the compelling evidence in favor of water fluoridation, various opposing views have come forth. Many average citizens and medical professionals alike consider the practice of water fluoridation to...

...r consumption, a practice that can be continued throughout their entire life without the financial burden of purchasing fluoride seperately. While this fluoride consumption cannot entirely replace teeth brushing, it is a helpful addition to this practice of hygene.
With the help of countless safety procedures, water fluoridation should remain to be the leading method of fluoride distribution because of its numerous benefits and ability to bring a luxury to those who are unable or unwilling to afford it otherwise. The potential dangers of this practice are extremely limited and occur during distribution malfunctions or human error. The benefits severely outweigh any possible negatives and, to support this belief, the FDA and ADA have worked together to promote water fluoridation around the world because of its effectiveness in maintaining human health and stability.
We often say how lucky we are to live in a place where we have access to safe water at any time but what if that was questioned? What if our water isn’t safe; it’s just that now we can’t see the dangers? Throughout the world 25 first world countries fluoridate some amount of their water artificially; almost half of these countries have the majority of their population drinking this chemically enhanced liquid every single day. In the UK 11% of us only have access to fluoridated water [70% in Ireland], and in the USA its 60%. After a quick browse on Google, the information about fluoride that can be learned from the NHS is mainly about teeth and tooth decay as fluoride is put in our toothpaste due to its claimed abilities to help tooth enamel fight attack [nothing has ever alluded to supporting this claim]. What can’t be seen at
Thesis Statement: Concerns for water fluoridation stem from the toxicity of fluoride, the dangers fluoride pose to the body, and equal declining tooth decay seen for fluoridated and non-fluoridated countries.
Few object to the therapeutic use of fluoride to stop tooth decay, but fluoridation, the addition of fluoride to the public water supply, can spark avid controversy. Most dentists, medical groups, and government officials argue that fluoridation is a cheap and risk-free venture that doubles cavity prevention. In contrast, a small minority of dentists and conservative political groups argue that fluoride is a hazardous, poisonous substance that should not be consumed. Some antifluoridationists even claim that fluoridation is an untrustworthy form of socialized medicine. But rather than just attacking fluoridation as socialized medicine, opponents originally claimed that it was a conspiracy to poison or brainwash Americans through the water supply. This theory arose in the 1940s when the scientific community refused to endorse or reject fluoridation, thus allowing the debate to expand into the social sphere. While fluoridation opposition may be subconsciously inspired by naturalism, the social development of fluoridation into a Communist or fascist conspiracy resulted from a conscious effort by conservatives to suppress a growing government.
Fluoride is being overused in the United States and there needs to be a stop to it. With all the problems it is causing, the limit being used should be something everyone should worry about. Many think fluoride is good for you because it whitens your teeth, and dentist offer it every time you go there, but clearly it is not. Fluoride does help with a lot of things like mottling of teeth and whitening teeth, but health problems are occurring, and it needs to come to a stop. Department of Health and Human Services have recommended a level of 0.7 milligrams per liter as a optimal for fluoride in drinking water throughout the United States. (State of Washington) Clearly, they are using more than normal that is it starting to cause a lot of health problems. To finalize, fluoride is being overused in the US, and there needs to be a stop to
I will be the first to admit that I found Case Study 2 confusing. There were several things that I do not feel were taught - like the risk for comorbid conditions or another MI. That being said, my results may be different from the other students.
Seventy percent of the US population now receives fluoridated drinking water, an industrial grade level chemical most commonly associated with the prevention of tooth decay, and in Virginia especially, 95.7% of all public water is fluoridated (CDC). I present this numbers to your concern because for something that is almost in all public drinking water, it is not informed to the average Virginia citizen, but that is not the primary issue I am addressing you for. My main matter of concern is that more recent studies performed by scientist in the US and abroad are now finally advocating decade old cautions back then just acknowledged as unsubstantial research or even myths on how rather potentially hazardous the fluoridation of water is for
Since I was a child my mom used to tell me “you needed to brush your teeth at least twice a day because if you don’t do so, you are going loose them forever, and guess what, once you lose them they won’t grow back again”. I am pretty sure that for some of you this words sound very familiar, right? As I grew up I started to wonder why my mom always tell me brushing and flossing is so important? And that is the main reason why I decided to become a dental hygienist, in order to be able to teach my patients its importance.
My first argument for the fluoridation of water is that everyone in society should have equal opportunities for dental health improvements; water fluoridation achieves this as it promotes equity within society by making increased fluoride accessible to everyone. The principle of equity aims to ensure resources within society are distributed in a way that results in everyone their minimum requirements met (Reid & Robson, 2007). Public water fluoridation therefore creates equity for dental health improvements by making some level of preventative care available to everyone (Awofeso, 2012). This builds on the idea...
It’s important that the truth about fluoride is known by everyone because fluoridated water affects everyone. Everyone needs to drink water to survive and we shouldn’t have to be confused or scared about whether our water is safe. When people believe the conspiracies and misinformation surrounding fluoride that are spread by supposed experts who they think they can trust, it affects their decisions. Fear of fluoridation can cause people to distrust the government and the scientific community, which makes it harder for these organizations to get people to believe the truth about fluoride. This mistrust also makes it hard for these organizations to establish reliability with

Oral hygiene is an everyday part of life that people have to be mindful of. If time is taken each day, it can prevent a lot of negative health effects on mouths and bodies. People are taught the negative effects of not brushing teeth all of their lives. But do they really know all of the effects not brushing can truly have? Even if the goal is simply whiter teeth, people have to be aware of the repercussions of not having substantial oral hygiene regimens and practices. If the average person fails to keep up with what’s going on in their mouth, the bacteria that forms and builds up can lead to gum disease, tooth decay, and even heart issues. And a little prevention goes a long way.
...water added fluoride in their products as well. However the bad sides of fluoride were discovered and realized that some customers are looking for fluoride free water, because the people with young children do not want their children to drink fluoride water and end up with having fluorosis. Therefore they do not want to feed their children with tab water, because it still contains the fluoride in it, and looking for fluoride free bottled water. Therefore those industries which produce fluoride free water, made a lot of money. Also the government uses the fluoride waste from the aluminum factories or the other factories that create fluoride waste to fluoridate the water supplies. As the results, the factories do not have to care about their fluoride waste and end up saving a large amount of money. This is the connection between the fluoridated water and industry.
There are basic procedures to follow in order to uphold proper oral hygiene including brushing and flossing. The first step in maintaining a healthy mouth is performing proper brushing every day. Brushing properly helps lower the risk of tooth decay and gum disease, which are the major causes of tooth loss (Oral-B). It is recommended by the American Dental Association to brush teeth after every meal or at least twice a day (Edwards). It is important to choose the right toothbrush and toothpaste in order to get the best cleaning. A toothpaste containing fluoride will strengthen teeth and prevent cavities...
