First They Killed My Father Essay Has there been any abilities that has helped in life? Well maybe that someone might need to use them for a job, or even for living day to day by paying bills. There is a story called First They Killed My Father, and the main character Loung Ung who is the author talks about her life. She is talking about all the difficulties she has gone through like she has to move out of her home. This is all happening in 1975, with the Pol Pot Regime. The Ung Family, in the book First They Killed My Father, has special abilities that helped them live their life in the camps. Some of the members of the family had more of the abilities than the others. The Ung Family, and some other families survived mostly because they were using the abilities they had. The qualities are that they have courage, optimism, and faith because they are religious. They also have perseverance which they always kept pushing through even if a family member died. They have the quality of impeding all the hatred of the soldiers out of mind. They also have the quality of motivating themselves to working hard each day, as well as they all have the abilities to out smart the soldiers by becoming a different type of a family. They are also hopeful for what the future will hold, and also they stay strong and never giving up on their hopes. There is two situations that their characteristics really do show. One example is when Loung says, "Why? I like it more than the truck."(Loung, 21) This was the part when she wanted to leave her house in a Mazda. Her parents were smart enough to outsmart the soldiers, and act like a peasant family. Another example is when Pa says, "I have to go, but I will look after you always."(Loung, 109) This is all happening when Pa is about to leave, and he knew his family needed to split up and be strong about
