Imagine you are stuck in a difficult situation where you were desperate for help. Three inspirational people went through the exact same situation. Annie Johnson from New Directions, endured a divorce and had very little money. Farah Ahmedi survived a landmine and crossed the border with one leg. Ernesto Galarza moved to a whole new country without knowing the language. Inspirational people often undergo extraordinary missions due to circumstances, events, and challenges. One person was motivated to take mission was Ernesto Galarza from the story Barrio Boy. In paragraph 3, the text states,”In the thickening dusk we could hear the dull roar of people still trying to get past the border guards, but we receded into the desert, farther and farther back from the border gate.” Farah was beginning to lose hope in her mission of crossing the border to Pakistan. She overcomes this in paragraph 7, when the text states,”way across the border. He was checking out a goat path that supposedly went over the mountains several miles northeast of the border station. If one could get to Pakistan safely by that route, he would come back for his family. “You can go with us,” the woman said.” Farah becomes hopeful because she finds someone who is willing to help cross the border. Lastly, in paragraph 12, the text states,”Her family used my example to chide her. They kept saying, “Look at that girl. She’s missing a leg, and yet she’s going faster than you. Why can’t you keep up? Hurry now!” Farah has endured incredible challenges like losing her leg and not being able to cross the border. Farah is a refugee who overcame her difficult circumstances. Annie makes the best out of her situation and decides she will make her own path. She uses her talents to help her make money. Lastly, in paragraph 10, the text states, “cut herself a brand-new path. In years that stall became a store where customers could buy cheese, meal, syrup, cookies, candy, writing tablets, pickles, canned goods, fresh fruit, soft drinks, coal oil, and leather soles for worn-out shoes.” This shows due to Annie’s hard work and determination, she was able to build a business out of nothing. In The Other Side of the Sky by Farah Ahmedi, Farah suffers from coping with the Taliban in her daily life. Farah describes the Taliban as “a terrible army of big bearded boys” and “wild alien beings, or beasts from another world.” The group took all of Farah’s family away from her, and the Ahmedi family was just another unfortunate victim of the Taliban’s violence, when the group rose to power.

She comforts the Wilsons, feeds the starving nameless faces when she barely has enough for her own family, works together with the Wainwrights, and as the novel closes she is still directing her assistance to those who are in need any way she can, by helping the starving man and taking control of the situation. She feels that as long as she can hold on to some part of the family, she will see to it that they keep on going.
A brave hero often risks his/her lives to save someone else. In Zeitoun, Dave Eggers tells us a story of Abdulrahman Zeitoun, the hard working Syrian American owner of a contracting company in New Orleans. Zeitoun and his wife Kathy ran the company together. They have three children named Nademah, Safiyah, Aisha. Kathy has a child from her first marriage. Zeitoun is very closed with his family and he takes his family like nobody else. When hurricane Katrina landed in 2005, endless number of people were affected. Mayor Nagin ordered a first time ever mandatory evacuation. Kathy moved with the children to her sister’s house in Baton Rouge. Zeitoun refused to leave with his family because he didn’t want lose his properties, but at the same time, his customers trusted him and gave him their house keys to check on their houses, which caused his separation with his family. This illustrates that Zeitoun is a responsible, powerful, trustworthy, and unselfish person. During the hurricane, Zeitoun was using a canoe rescuing people. Due to the lack of rescue work, many people didn’t get enough supports at that time. Zeitoun had the courage to sacrifice his family, safety, and selfish needs for saving the people.

During Annie’s stay Mr. Warbucks realizes how much he likes Annie and wants her to stay. In a way to tell her he gives her a new locket. After all that has happened she chose to sign the divorce papers of her and Charles McCarters divorce, and ran off to Orlando who will be next to marriage. Her choice towards the end of the movie was a great one, because she was able to find happiness in all she has chose, she was able to find love, and also forgive for her past and her pain. What she chose to do with her life was to move on and become a happy woman she deserves to be which is the greatest choice anyone can ever make.

There is another type of hero that almost no one is aware of. In the poorest areas of the country, live mostly minorities and other ethic background. All their lives they’ve been expected to work harder and expected not succeed in life. Some individuals living in poverty with a determination to succeed work hard all of their lives to become what everybody doubted they could. Escaping the crime, drugs, and prostitution is enough to escape hell, even if they don’t go to college. Despite of their financial problems, drug and crime surroundings, or difficulties in the language skills, their desire to triumph fuels their persistence. Those who make it to success are the few living examples of the purest form of hero anyone can be. They are not only their own heroes but also the heroes of the poor children who dream of becoming like them someday.
