In the book Dorothy must Die by Danielle Paige, the author develops a tone through the use of facetious language in her novel through the use of irony and absurdity. Amy is a normal girl from Kansas who has a boring life back home until she and her trailer get swooped up by a tornado. She then finds herself in Oz thinking it is a wonderful place because of the movie. She then find out that Dorothy has been taking magic away from the people of Oz, the only way to stop Dorothy is through herself. When she first found out it was oz she assumed it would be magical but that idea is shut down after her first friend there is killed by Dorothy and her evil minions (83) .
