The thrill of flying into the air and winning gold medals is a delightful dream however, one slip and you could be left with a lifelong injury or even death. What a nightmare! With extreme sports come extreme risks of danger which can all be easily prevented. With the facts that there are high risks of danger, protective equipment is not enough, and young brains are accident-prone to injury, extreme sports should be left to the adults. Firstly, the high risks of danger rules out safety of any minors participating in extreme sports. No matter how much one may think they are safe, they are very likely to be injured. They are the poster of safety though it can only stretch so far. According to Vani Sabesan, M.D, "Massive head trauma that can cause permanent brain damage and even death is a very real possibility." (Page 23) In addition, kids grow so fast that it is hard to have protective gear fit correctly. It would be ludicrous to risk a minor's safety this much. Thirdly, young brains are still developing! According to Vani Sabesan, M.D, "...Studies show that a child's brain is more vulnerable to the effects of a brain injury and takes longer to recover." (Page 23) How will a child learn as easily as other children with an injury so serious that can lead to disability? Also, scientists have discovered that the part of the brain that weighs risks versus reward and impulse control is not fully mature in adolescents. The brain is arguably the most important organ in the body and should not be exposed to so much danger. All in all, if children were allowed to participate in extreme sports, it would be very detrimental to their whole life including their mental health, physical health, and ability to learn. With all of these risks and patients who have gone through horrible injuries and pain, they can surely say how it's not worth it. It is best for them to wait until they are an adult to make such a crucial decision that affects their risk of danger and health
