We are all used to the argument that people make that school should start at a later hour. Of course a lot of people want to sleep in, catch a few more Z’s. It sounds tempting. However, in the end pushing school to a later start time would cause more harm than good. I know all about the so called perfect all american family. Mom gets up early and makes breakfast for kids. She sends them off to school with a smile making sure they don’t forget their homework. Well let’s just say that not all of us live the all american dream. My mom has to be to work by 5 am. That means I am left to get my little sister ready to school, try and make breakfast, make sure the doors are all locked and somehow get to school on time. This doesn’t always work. Later in the day around mid afternoon kids can’t concentrate. They just want to take a nap. The later it gets in the day, the more likely kids will get more sleepy. Kids might not do as well if they aren’t concentrating. Also if they aren’t concentrating in school, they might have a potential risk of fighting other students. If school started earlier, teachers would gain many benefits that can only obtained by starting earlier in the morning. During the school day, teachers spend most of their time teaching. Following this, teachers spend their time immediately following the school day grading papers and preparing lesson plans. By starting earlier in the day it would give everyone the free time after work to do whatever it is that teachers enjoy doing. Getting plenty of time to relax will also make them more alert to help teach. All of these are solid reasons to start school earlier in the morning. Also, students will be up later finishing homework and socializing on their phones with friends. Although schools will now have been adjusted to fit with students sleep cycles, that does not mean that the students will actually get more sleep. Also, people do not think of the consequences such as conflicts with transportation.
Everyone has always hated getting up super early to go to school. As children get older they move to different schools, from elementary to middle to high school, and the start times get earlier. In elementary school it was never a problem getting up but getting older, it always got harder to get up and the days were always longer. Schools start so early in the morning that it is hard to focus and students tend to miss more of their earlier classes and attend all of their later classes. Schools everywhere should start later because it would benefit the students and teachers.
The first reason why school should start later is because teens need sleep. Most teens don’t or can’t go to sleep to get the needed amount of sleep, so they are more rushed in the morning and stressed throughout the day. According to the national sleep foundation, “59% of sixth graders and 87% of high schoolers aren’t getting the recommended 8.5 to 9.5 hours of sleep per night. If school started later, they could get the sleep they need and they wouldn’t be as stressed or tired.
Schools should not start later because that would cause a lot of problems. Schools should stay how they are because it will make kids stop being on there phones at night so much, it won’t make school end later (and make kids walk home in the dark), and it interfere with sports or jobs.

In a recent study done by Yucaipa high school, 97% of students believe school should start later. Students should be able to start school at 9:00 a.m. Students should start later because kids will have a better attendance and less tardies. The more sleep students get the more energized they are, as well as having a better mood throughout the day. The majority of the students drive, so the more sleep they have helps decrease the rate of car accidents. Students are late, absent, cranky, and careless this is why school should start later.
“The point is this is a health issue and we want them to be more productive,” said principal Sam Miceli. The people that decide what time school starts should talk to health professionals. The reason school should start later are grades and class work can increase and for teen’s health and safety. I want to convince you that school should start later in the day.
We’ve all woken up tired not wanting to go to school, because we didn’t get enough sleep. Of course when I say we, I mean as in teens who go to school, and possibly yourself when at the time in your life. The schedule for school doesn’t fit in very well with our sleep patterns. Sleep experts from the University of Minnesota, have found that later start times made students have a better health measure and over perform better in school (Hoofman 2). Research being done on this topic mostly specifies that bodies don’t agree with the start time, for various reasons. You’re in your bed sleeping peacefully when all of a sudden you’re jolted awake by your alarm. You drag yourself out of bed, having only gotten five hours of sleep. Does that sound like a nightmare? For many students, that’s a reality. Many students feel they aren’t getting enough sleep which can lead to more problems at school; therefore, school should start later in the day because it would increase grades, keep students safer, and allow teenagers to get enough sleep.
Kids need at least 9 hours of sleep per night and they’re not getting that. Studies show that kids get only about 7½-8½ hours of sleep per night. An article called Sleep In Adolescents states that middle schoolers and young adolescents don’t get enough sleep because puberty changes changes their sleeping schedules, they have to get up too early for school, and homework and after-school activities keep them up later. Clearly school needs to start later because kids are not getting enough sleep.
Plus the University of Minnesota said that grades, test scores and overall performance is better when schools started later. If There is multiple facts and reasons to have later start times help students get through the school day. BY helping students get better grades, test scores, and overall better. And teens these days aren't getting the sleep they need to wake up early and go to school. SO that is why school should have later start times.
Did you know that sleeping might help battle cancer (Source H) ? I didn't know until now. Many parents and students are aware that they (the students) are not getting enough sleep and that it affects their health. Some schools are pushing their school hours farther in order to help solve the sleep deprivation conflict. I qualify this solution up to the point if schools start no later than 8:30 am in the morning.

The topic of school beginning too early has slowly been rising to question whether or not it would be beneficial to the learning process of adolescents for school to start later. Studies show that the brain of an adolescent isn't fully functional to retain memory until 10am; therefore, students would benefit from starting school at a later time than the usual 7-8am schedule. This is happening because both teens and kids cannot seem to put their full potential forward academically and physically, while being sleep deficient. According to the Center for Disease control kids should get 8 to 10 hours of sleep each night. Both the CDC and National Pediatricians Group said that lack of sleep can lead to higher chances of obesity, and depression, and higher risk of car accidents in teens, as well as lower quality of life. I strongly believe kids should start school later than 8:00 so that they can get better grades and have more focus. If kids start school early their grades can go down and they can lose focus. Sometimes I get to school and I am tired. My school starts at 8:30 so it starts later than usual schools though, so that means schools should definitely start after 8:00. Schools that start early should definitely think about a later start time.
