Experiencing coasterphobia can tie with others phobias as well. Doctors say that suffering from coasterphobia is caused by other phobias such as acrophobia, illyngophobia, social phobia, mysophobia, claustrophobia, tachophobia, and emetophobia (Fritscher, 2017). Acrophobia is a type of phobia when people are extremely scared of heights, that’s why the don’t go on any high places such as buildings with large windows, elevators, or escalators. Illyngophobia is a type of phobia where people avoid trying to look down whenever they are in an elevated place. Social Phobia is the type of phobia where people don’t want to be judged or embarrassed of their horrified reactions about the riding a roller coaster. Both can be very traumatizing to people and it may cause them to never ride roller coasters ever again. One incident happened in 1986 at West Edmonton Mall, Canada where three people died and one man was in a serious injury. The roller coaster was called The Mindbender, known for the world’s largest and safest indoor roller coaster (Purdy, 2016). The accident happened when the Mindbender was going a hundred kilometers when it battered a pillar and flinged four passengers to the ground. A man name Rod Chayko was the only survivor and apparently the three people died were his friends. Chayko was sitting next to David Sager while Tony Mandrusiak and his fiancee Cindy Sims were sitting behind them. Although he survived the hazard he did break his every rib in his left side, destroyed his lower legs, fractured his left shoulder as well as his feet, lower back, and pelvis (Purdy, 2016).
