To be patriotic means having or expressing devotion to and vigorous support for one's country. Pat Tillman was born in Fremont California, and played football at Leland high school in San Jose, California. Pat Tillman was not only determined, hard working and selfless in football, but in everything he did each day.
Pat Tillman was determined to try new things and do his best with everything he did. Tillman showed that during the Nebraska game, when he told reporters that he was not gonna let the same thing happen as the year before when they got blown out. He made big plays and the whole team played well and beat Nebraska. Another example of Tillman being determined was when the 9/11 attacks happened, he wanted to find Osama Bin Laden. People tried to talk him out of it because he had a bright future for football but he was very determined and enlisted in the military. After reading the story and watching the documentary, you could easily tell that Tillman was very determined to do things in his life.

When it came to football, Tillman busted his butt everyday in practice to prove himself. During the off season he was always doing something active from climbing giant cliffs to running in marathons. He was also hard working in the classroom. He graduated college in three and a half years with a 3.85 GPA. There were many close games and all Tillman’s team needed was one touchdown to win. He would turn to his coach and say “coach, give me the ball, I’ll get it done.” And almost every time, he did get the job done. Eventually becoming a star NFL defensive back, it was his sense of duty that would lead him from the goal lines of the football field to the front lines of the battle field. He would die on duty, but his death would not be his undoing. The flagitious stream of lies fed by the U.S. Government following his death, revealed by John Krakauer in Where Men Win Glory, belittled the man who had so valiantly walked away from the American Dream in order to die for it. The way our government dealt with his controversial death viciously struck against everything Pat stood for, and I walked away with a sour taste in my mouth about our “greatest country on earth.”

It is clear to us that Boone did in fact face a challenge that he overcame. He wanted to be accepted by the community by proving that he was a valued member of it, a valuable football coach. In order to do this he had to prove that he could coach The Titans through all of their games, this required team unity. He gained the respect and acceptance of the football players in order to encourage their unity. He knew that only through their unity could they succeed. It is not the mere challenge that Boone faced that gained merit; it was what he succeeded in doing that was the real important achievement, succeeding to prove to the community that they could indeed be united.

This book is telling a story about two African American boys (Wes A and Wes P) who have the same name and grew up at same community, but they have a very different life. The author, Wes A, begins his life in a tough Baltimore neighborhood and end up as a Rhodes Scholar, Wall Streeter, and a white house fellow; The other Wes Moore begins at the same place in Baltimore , but ends up in prison for the rest of his life. Then why do they have the same experience, but still have a totally different life? I will agree here that environment (family environment, school education environment and society environment) is one of the biggest reasons for their different.
