Personal Statement For many people, higher education is often a challenge, and many struggle because they lack the discipline and motivation to succeed. I have been lucky to have a strong family behind me to constantly push me. Going to college was a family expectation, and I am eternally grateful because without it the possibility of attending George Washington law school would not exist. In May 2014, I graduated, a year early, from The College at Brockport, SUNY, with a Bachelor of Arts degree. While there, I had a number of successes, including: competing in a moot court seminar; participating in the college’s nationally recognized Leadership Development Program; and receiving numerous academic honors and awards. The Green Certificate (1st level) established my strengths, weaknesses, and values, determined the congruency of my actions, and recognized my commitment to such beliefs and values. The Gold Certificate (2nd level) focused on group leadership skills by determining my personal role within a group, the groups views and values, and how to address contrasting views and values in a manner that developed positive relationships. Finally, the Presidential Certificate (3rd level) taught me how to identify and access community needs, participate in ongoing civic engagement, and my personal role as a citizen in my community. Combined each certificate engraved significant leadership skills that I will continue to use and develop throughout my life. The above is only a mere fraction. As I said, I graduated a year early from undergrad as a double major with a final GPA of 3.86 and the honor of Summa Cum Laude. I was inducted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, the Alpha Chi Omega Honor Society, and the Phi Sigma National Honor Society. I was the recipient of the Sarah F. Liebschutz Award and the Political Science Scholar Award; both designated for a majoring student with the highest GPA. In addition, I was awarded the Donald J. and Julie McWherter Award intended for a student with a desire to attend law school.
