Why College Athletes Should Be Paid Have you ever had the thought, “Why do college athletes not get paid?” Well, the NCAA claims that they do not have the money, or the student athletes are getting their college tuitions fully paid, is that not enough? These things are simply not true. These are just two of the reasons why the NCAA states they cannot pay student athletes. However, there are many reasons why we should pay student athletes. College athletes should be paid because, it would ultimately make the sport more competitive, give kids more incentive to stay in school, and the NCAA has the money to spare, especially when they are making the bulk of their money off the athletes. The people out there that say, “these college athletes should not be getting these million dollar contracts while still in school” are completely right. No one is asking for that much, but surely, with the huge amount of money the NCAA brings in every year, they could spare a little bit to pay the players.
