The Declaration of Independance freed the United States and here is why and how. The 13 colonies need a document that freed them colonist from the tyranny from King George III, so the declaration was written. The Declaration of Independence was caused by grievances against the king and as a result the 13 colonies were declared free from Britain's rule. During the Colonial Era the 13 colonies were under the rule of a king that was all the way across the across. The colonist needed independence from Britain. After the colonist had endured 169 years of tyranny under Britain, the colonist decided, after careful consideration, they wanted independence from Britain so they wrote the Declaration of Independance. The writing of the Declaration of Independance wasn't a rash decision, it took the colonist 17 days. The colonist wanted to make sure their point was clear when the king read the document. They held several meeting to make sure all of the representatives were in agreement with the final draft of the document before it was published. …show more content…

The Acts imposed by the king were a major grievance and a reason for the Declaration of Independance. After Britain fought the Seven Years War, the country had a lot of war debt. The king thought that it would be a good idea to tax the colonist to get that money back. Since the colonist had no one represent them in Parliament the colonist refused to pay because it was taxation without representation. The Acts weren't the only thing the colonist had against the king. King George III was also unjust when it came to the citizens rights, and the placement of troops during peaceful times.
