NAPOLEON
Napoleon is a ‘large, fierce looking Berkshire boar, and is the only Berkshire on the farm.’ He is a character based off of Joseph Stalin, the dictator of the Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics from 1929 to 1953. He is not much of a talker, but has a reputation of getting his own way, whilst also proving to be more treacherous than his counterpart, Snowball. In the time period the rebellion was planned and formed among the animals, Napoleon rarely, if never, contributed to the revolution and never showed interest in the strength of Animal Farm as a whole, rather only the strength his own power over it. This is shown when he requests the cockerel to wake him up half an hour earlier than the other animals. He shares a strong relationship with Benjamin the donkey, and Clover, the other female cart horse. Boxer shows much devotion to the ideals of Animal Farm, but has little, to no ability to think about them himself. This shows he is slow witted, and not one of the smartest animals on Animal Farm. He proves to be a valuable soldier at the Battle of the Cowshed and proves to be the force that holds Animal Farm together. He is quick to help, has incredible strength, dedication, and loyalty towards Animal Farm and Napoleon himself. Boxer, not being one of the smarter animals, naively trusts the pigs to make decisions for him throughout the story. His two adopted mottos are “I will work harder” and “Napoleon is always right”. However, he soon gets injured whilst working on the windmill and suffers a pitiful death as he is slaughtered at the glue
