Jane Addams took a stand for social welfare /social reform by becoming a co-founder of the hull house and helping immigrants live, and get equal rights for women and also believed that social differences cannot affect her. Jane Addams the daughter of John H. Addams founded the first settlement house in chicago’s hull house. She helped America focus on issues that were of concern to mothers, such as the needs of children, local public health, world peace and equal rights. Jane Addams the youngest of eight born in September 6, 1860 lived in a well privileged family yet fought for the equal rights for people. Jane Addams was a cofounder of the hull house a house where immigrants settled in and helped them have a better life in the U.S. In her book “Excerpt of Twenty Years at Hull House, by Jane Addams”, it has stated “One thing seemed clear in regard to entertaining immigrants; to preserve and keep whatever of value their past life contained and to bring them in contact with a better type of Americans.” (Addams). This quote could explain one of the experiences immigrants had during the production of the hull house which would have helped a lot of immigrants who became Americans. Another quote from the book also implies “An overmastering desire to reveal the humbler immigrant parents to their own children lay at the base of what has come to be called the Hull-House Labor Museum.”(Addams) the quote could explain how immigrants were and how they acted throughout their lives in the hull house going as much as becoming a labor worker for the future of their children and lives. Jane addams helped a lot of immigrants throughout her life with or without the support of her peers and the people.
