The government has not really been able detect and deter the crime of identity theft due to the nature of the crime. Identity theft can be a numerous of crimes like computer hacking, fraud, trickery, re-directing or intercepting mail, or even by legal means, purchasing information on the internet. Technology has made this type of crime easier to commit for perpetrators but harder for law enforcement to solve. Most of the time the use of identity theft is to gain wealth financially or to avoid arrest or otherwise hide one’s identity from law enforcement or other authorities, such as bill collectors. Technology now let’s criminals work from home and it seems nowadays that all you really need is a computer or cell phone to do anything. What makes identity theft so easy to commit for criminals is all they really need to commit such an act is a person’s identity meaning full name, social security number, age, birthdate, address, etc. So think about this, how many of us lose things daily? I know I do, and that sometimes is all it takes for a person to really steal your identity and ruin your life. Now with us having online banking apps and pretty relying on our cell phone to do everything for us, it really hurts and can hinder our life if faced with this topic called identity theft. What if you was to lose your cell phone and a criminal got their hands on it and you had all your online banking apps open, which we do tend to never log out of your apps simply because we feel this is our phone and I will never lose my phone. But we all know mistakes are so easy to make without even trying and simple mistakes can really cost us in the long
