Essay On Euthanasia

715 Words2 Pages

Euthanasia also known as “Assisted Suicide” involves an injection that slowly kills a person that has been diagnosed with a terminal disease or has been giving a time limit on their life. Even though euthanasia is a very sad subject, it has a very positive outlook in the end. Euthanasia is a greek word for “good death”. There are different types of euthanasia such as Voluntary Euthanasia, Involuntary Euthanasia, Active Euthanasia, Passive Euthanasia, Physician-Assisted Suicide, and Assisted Suicide. The most common type of euthanasia is passive euthanasia, which includes withholding food, water, and surgery, also withdrawing the medicine needed, or removing the patient from life support is included in passive. There is a debate about whether euthanasia should be legal, and also whether it is humane to kill another human being. Twenty euthanasia cases have gone on trail every year since 2000. Around nine percent of deaths in Netherlands are from euthanasia. The way that most people look at this procedure is they are going to die anyway so why should we let them die suffering everyday until they finally take their last breath. The different types are somewhat similar, voluntary euthanasia is when a coherent person makes a voluntary and enduring request to be helped to die. Involuntary euthanasia is to end a persons life without there knowledge or consent. Active euthanasia requires the end to a person’s life by use of drugs, whether by oneself, or with the help of another person. Passive euthanasia includes ending a persons life by not taking the necessary and regular actions to stay alive. This type is most common and is mostly done by holding out on food, water, drugs, or surgical procedures. Physician-Assisted Suicide is bas... ... middle of paper ... ...ursing organization in the USA sees euthanasia as unethical, it requires doctors to go against the Hippocratic Oath which says “I swear to practice medicine ethically and honestly.” Another argument against euthanasia is that it is a doctors job to heal NOT kill. My opinion on euthanasia is that no matter what happens if someone wants to die they will find a way to commit suicide. I believe that its best to go ahead and let go rather than watch the person you love slowly waste away in pain and suffering for months or even years. If someone dose not want to spend the last little bit of their time here on earth in excoriating pain and embarrassed by how they look or how weak they are, then go ahead and let them end it. Everyone has the right to live and the right to die, so why should we be the ones stopping someone from ending their life of pain if they are unhappy.
