Growing up Eminem did not have the best childhood, raised by a drug addicted single mom, dad left the family for no reason, moving back and forth from Missouri to Michigan. Living in Michigan, mostly the Detroit area, Eminem grew up in a predominately African American community and was being bullied consistently. This portion of the song refers to Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee, because Tommy Lee was arrested for assaulting his ex-wife, Pamela Anderson, while the couple was in the process of a divorce. Eminem’s style of belittling celebrities, and from his music is shown in many portions of this song. Later in the song, Eminem refers to Dr. Dre, saying “And Dr. Dre said, nothing you idiots Dr. Dre’s dead, he is locked in my basement (ha ha)”. In the music video during this part, we are shown a picture of Dr. Dre’s picture on a milk carton with a “Missing” symbol. This represents Dr. Dre’s absence from the music, even though Dr. Dre was the one person who believed in Eminem and gave him his big break and shine in the music industry. Briefly, Tom Green, a comedian and actor, is mentioned about him humping a dead moose. Sadly, and strangely enough this did occur. I feel the way Eminem presented this situation into context was saying that, his reputation wouldn’t allow him to “to get on t.v and just let loose”, as he claims in the song. Previously I hinted above about his sexism and misogynistic ways, but now I will go in depth. Hip hop misogyny has been reignited since the history of Dr. Dre’s abuse appeared again with the debut album Straight Outta Compton. The history behind misogyny has dated back decades and has gained even more pushback due to artist like Rick Ross, Drake and Kanye West. These rappers have created songs that dehumanized women from them stripping, making money, and slapping them while having intercourse. However, Kanye West gained a great amount of pushback due to his Yeezus album that greatly dehumanized, influenced sexisim and exhibited a great amount of anger towards women. The release of Straight outta Compton created a huge controversy behind sexism and abuse as it should. Dr. Dre’s beating of Dee Barnes then created a dialogue within the media due to the huge success of the movie. The creator of Straight Outta compton then made a statement after her bragging on how successful the movie was. Ava DuVernay states “I saw the cavalier way that women were treated in hip hop spaces early on. To be a woman who loves hip hop at times is to be in love with your abuser. Because the music was and is that. And yet the culture is ours. From depictions of the origins of ‘Bye Felicia’ to watching Cube bring his wife Kim to business meetings. That’s hip hop. A curious thing”. The statement was a post made on Twitter and The Daily Beast brought it to our attention. Dr. Dre contribution to this movie shows how misogyny within hip hop has become a thing even greater than NWA. Growing older, and becoming more aware of the way the masses swayed, it became clear that Kanye West wasn't very liked, and therefore must be a bad person. I was overall very passive about this topic. I had other things I was more interested in, like figuring out how to survive high school, but I gathered information regardless. Without trying, I learned things about Kanye, mostly negative, and mostly through the mainstream media. It became increasingly clearer to me that there were two completely opposite views about Kanye, the more popular view: he’s a worthless egotistical pop star, who’s created nothing of value, and, as I was shocked to learn over time, the informed view, and the truth, that he was and is one the most influential artists of the 21’st century.

With the connecting over a common enemy, hip-hop has become an accepted idea that both whites and blacks enjoy today. In fact, shortly after Wallace’s death, a fresh face came into the game—Marshall “Eminem” Mathers. He went on to become one of the most significant and influential rappers of all time. Mathers is white, and would not have been able to become a part of the hip-hop scene without the conflict between the east coast and the west coast and everyone coming together because of it.
To say it lightly, Stanley Crouch does not like the hip-hop genre of music. The dreadlocks, the clothing style, and the "vulgar": gold chains are just a few things he does not approve of at all. (Crouch, 1 ) It astounds him to see how far African-American music has fallen since the days of the Motown. Stanley was quoted as saying this about rap, "It is rudeness, vulgarity, and pornography disguised as ‘keeping it real.'" (Crouch, 1) He also went on to say the hip-hop music genre has the worst impact of all music genres on our culture today. (Crouch, 2) Crouch believes one does not need much talent to become a successful rapper unlike the jazz greats he listens to all the time.

It even accumulated when he dropped out of high school and pursued his rapping career. He never believed of failure which motivated him to engineer his own long rhyming skills. He used his own adversities to inspire his songs which many consider masterpieces. His daughter Hailey made a great contribution towards his career as he wanted to flourish in her eyes and give all he had never had. Eminem has changed the interface of rap music and has generated a new era of rap which he will be considered as the ‘Greatest Rapper of All Time’.
