Recommended: Depression cause and effects

Mental health issues plague millions every day. Ranging from general anxiety disorders to severe schizophrenia to everything in between; these all cause a level of discomfort. Many people just accept that they are a certain way and don’t try to find the real cause of their disorder. However, there could be a very logical and scientific answer to their silent cry for help. Biomed is the study of biology integrated with medicine and engineering. Many mental disorders have been researched through biomedical projects. Meaning scientist has found logical causes to illnesses like depression and schizophrenia. Biomed also is working toward easing the symptoms and finding cures for mental illnesses. Biomed uses mainly medicines to help with mental disorders. I plan to go deep into specifically depression and schizophrenia; these are two well documented and studied diseases. Depression and schizophrenia both have biomedical causes and cures. Depression is characterized by overwhelming sadness, loss of motivation, and interest in activities. This mental illness can be life-threatening and disabling for many people. Depression affects 1 in 10 adults, leading to the majority of the 41,000 yearly suicides. (Hope for Depression Research Foundation [n.d]). Although this is a very disabling disease that makes thousands feel hopeless; but Biomed gives a better insight into the illness. Allowing many to pinpoint why they have depression giving them a kind of comfort with their mental illness.
