The first part of the disorder that needs to be explored is the symptoms. “The essential feature of Antisocial Personality Disorder is a pervasive pattern of disregard for, and violation of, the rights of others that begins in childhood or early adolescence and continues into adulthood (American Psychiatric Association, 2000).” Some examples of this are that people with this disorder frequently commit acts that could be grounds for arrest (but they do not always get arrested), mutilation of small animals in childhood, or the beating of ones spouse or child. A person with this disorder usually seems to have an artificial charm and can be very manipulative, which may have led to many of the murders in the headlines above. Another key feature of this disorder is that individuals suffering from this disorder tend to be irresponsible, especially in the workplace and finances. The individuals tend to fail at keeping a job for very long and cannot keep track of their spending. Another key feature of the disorder is that the individual usually doesn’t care about the safety of themselves or others. This behavior ...

Individuals who are found to have antisocial personality disorder often exhibit patterns of manipulating or violating the rights of others, lack of regard for the law, lack concern for others, no control over their rage, and they lack guilt for any wrongdoings committed, among other signs. A person with APD will typically have a history of violence, aggressiveness, law-breaking, and deceitfulness dating back to childhood. APD is most common in men than in women. When considering criminal serial killers, people often state that these men they thought they knew were charming, sincere, and the ideal neighbor, but the truth is, it was just a façade masking cruel hatred. Three well-known serial killers that were diagnosed with having antisocial personality disorder are Ted Bundy, Charles Manson, and John Wayne
The first being antisocial personality, people with this disorder are not able to recognize right or wrong. Individuals with this disorder do not care for anyone and will do anything to reach their desired outcome. They feel no
Ever seen movies with the characters of Hannibal Lecter, Jason, or Michael Myers? These are very famous psychopaths in the Hollywood world. The way these movies interpret these psychopaths is a misconception to what a psychopath really is. A psychopath is “somebody affected with a personality disorder marked by aggressive, violent, antisocial thought and behavior and a lack of remorse or empathy,” or “an offensive term for somebody who is regarded as highly antisocial, aggressive, and lacking in empathy.”(Encarta ® World English Dictionary) Psychopaths are known and most likely to have APD, which stands for Antisocial Personality Disorder. People who have APD are usually thoroughly tested to find any signs of psychopathy or even sociopathy in their mentalities. Not all people who have APD are bad, they just don’t understand and conform to they ways of human nature.

Antisocial personality disorder is most commonly diagnosed during the late teens and early twenties. There are a few factors that could possibly be the cause of APD, but there is not a specific one that researchers have come up with. Taking the next step to being diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder, mental health professionals evaluate the client in order to find the right treatment for them. Psychotherapy, cognitive therapy, behavior therapy, and medications are all the types of treatments a person with APD may get. More individuals in prison experience antisocial personality disorder and since the majority of people who have APD don’t seek help, those in the prison system get help by a court.
Avoidant personality disorder is very rare. It is only displayed in one per cent of the adult population. Personality disorders are a bit hard to diagnose. Since they are a life long pattern, someone has to identify the pattern and then convince the person to see someone about the pattern. That is the only way that diagnosis takes place.

Biologically, people who have had ancestors or relatives that had committed a crime or are a repetitive criminal, have a higher rate of following in the family footsteps. Genetically we inherit genes from our parents and we can receive the same mold of criminal behaviors from our ancestors. For example, if alcoholism runs in your family, you have a higher percentage to become an alcoholic from genetics. The framework for the research was based on the developmental taxonomy of anti-social behavior, a theory derived by Dr. Terri Moffitt, who identified three groups, or pathways, found in the population: life-course persistent offenders, adolescent-limited offenders and abstainers. Moffitt suggested that environmental, biological and, perhaps, genetic factors could cause a person to fall into one of the paths.
