Being in a car crash isn’t an experience you want to go through. Accidents often happen, they don’t happen by choice most of the time. Thousands of people die each year due to car crashes. Accidents are caused by multiple reasons most of which drivers are responsible for. From simple distractions like the phone to people driving under the influence accidents occur. Today I will describe events that happened to me that made me feel thankful for being alive. The one car crash that I was a part of that changed my life. This accident happened back in 2014. Literally a second before the car impacted us I heard my friend who was sitting in the back screaming ‘watch out’. Instantly my whole vision starts spinning while my mind is blank. A strong noise is heard at the exact moment of the impact. We end up at the opposite side of the avenue, crashing to a house driveway park. I was the first one to be conscious again. As soon as the car stops spinning try to wake up my driver friend by shaking his head. There’s blood coming out of his nose and he doesn’t wake up. I stormed out of the car and tried to open the car’s back door to see my other friend who was at the back. He is conscious but confused. I felt a metallic taste in my mouth. I then touched my mouth to check and it was blood, looks like I might have bitten my tongue when the impact took place.
We could smell the smoke coming out of the car motor. Then G and I proceeded to get out our other friend who was driving. He is not conscious yet and has his mouth covered in blood. Between us two we get him out and starting walking opposite the car direction in case it explodes. Black and grey smoke in the air as blood covered our clothes. The person from the other car made it out okay and went to help us while calling 911. I could feel my neck sore and pain all over my back. In the end, of course, there is no one person or agency responsible for the accident. “In the front seat was Gregg, driving, Sarah, in the middle, and Robyn, on the passenger side. In the rear seat was Jeff, behind the driver, Haley, in the middle, and Rachel, on the passenger side. EVERYONE was wearing their SEAT BELTS, as is our family habit. EVERYONE walked away from this accident with only bruises. The only blood was Robyn had small nicks from glass in a couple of places on her right arm and right leg.

The story of the Dingmore family motivated me to take a serious look at my driving habits and make others aware of the dangers of driving while distracted. No one is indestructible, and it is better to be safe than sorry because a life is something none of us can ever get back. This was a valuable, important learning experience because it presented an opportunity for prevention and safety. I will continue to prevent and limit distractions because focused driving can be the difference between keeping and losing a life.

Despite their effective way of communication, the use of a cell phones while driving results in negative effects to driving performance. Disappointment, disbelief and fear filled my mind as I lye on my side, sandwiched between the cold, soft dirt and the hot, slick metal of the car. The weight of the car pressed down on the lower half of my body with monster force. It did not hurt, my body was numb. All I could feel was the car hood's mass stamping my body father and farther into the ground. My lungs felt pinched shut and air would neither enter nor escape them. My mind was buzzing. What had just happened? In the distance, on that cursed road, I saw cars driving by completely unaware of what happened, how I felt. I tried to yell but my voice was unheard. All I could do was wait. Wait for someone to help me or wait to die.
A precautious individual, I began to pedal at a slightly increased rate. Still I didn't feel as though I was in any real danger, until the car flew past me, grazing my arm. An excessant shriek erupted from the car as it grinded to a halt at the coming stop sign. The number of accidents over the last ten years have drastically increased, drivers are paying less attention to the road itself. Many individuals behind the wheel of a car believe that their driving does not affect the road conditions, however it always will. The driving habits of today are catastrophic due to the reasoning that the driving will affect other lives through reckless or distracted driving, and disobeying traffic laws.
Accidents happen all the time whether we know it or not. Some could possibly be avoided and others may not. I was a young girl, who didn’t truly grasp the concept of life and death. Every time I was upset about something, I would think about ending my own life. However, through one horrifying incident, that silly thought of mine completely vanished. Thanks to that specific mishap, the way I perceived life and death has in turn, changed entirely anew.
