All About Voodoo I wanted to learn about a religion that I had no clue about a religion that was not like my own in any way, or so I thought the more I studied this religion the more I found out that Voodoo and Christianity are very similiar. I have always grown up in a Christian religion I have never really studied about any other religion. I chose to learn about Voodoo. Voodoo itself means spirit. This is not like any religion that I have ever read about. “Voodoo originated in the West Indies country of Haiti during the French Colonial Period (1699 to 1763), and it is still widely practiced in Haiti today. Many people see this religion as barbaric and unethical. Many people see this religion more as a superstition and do not consider it a “valid,” religion. Many people are confused by this religion. What I found to be interesting is that voodoo does not believe in illicit drugs or alcohol, I know many people believe that this religion partakes in a different recreational drugs. They also do not believe in abortions they have this in common with Christianity they believe that unless abortion is used to save the life of the mother than it is not supported by the religion. Also Voodoo followers do not partake in autopsies which may be very difficult in our day and age. Performing an autopsy is considered ruining the human body. Voodoo has their own ways of determing what is the cause of death. All in all, I have found this religion to be very interesting I have learned so many facts and non-facts about this religion. Before this paper I always associated Voodoo with sorcery and “dark magic,” but after studying this religion I learned that it is the complete opposite of this and is very similar to Christianity in so many ways. Voodoo is not used to place spells on people and do not have any associations with real world zombies. Voodoo also does not believe in “dark magic,” or “white magic.” I hope that this paper open the eyes of every reader as it did
