Dear, Harry I hope everything is going well for you and your son, It’s been awhile so I decided to write a letter to you telling everything that happened while you were gone and we hope you came back soon or at least come and see us. After Winston got down safely everyone calmed down and went home. This is when you had left it was almost the beginning of december and thing weren’t going well because as soon as we finish Jerry and his boys came over and destroyed our decoration. I chose to write a thank you letter because it seem to fit my writing style. This fits my skills because I’m not a big writing person and this feels like it was the easiest for me to do. The easiest part about writing a letter is knowing the characters well enough that you can talk about their personality and how they have impacted Maycomb. The most challenging part is going to be citing the story at least 3 times because I’m not going to know exactly where a character said something or remembering an episode. This project will help me with improving my skills by learning how to write a more complex letter and with higher level words. Though the hug is unbearably wet and quite difficult to choke down, each mother accepts the affection gladly from her boys. A few stars of the night may get stopped by someone from the Banner Graphic newspaper to get a few statements from the boys to include in the Saturday edition of the paper. Once they all come out you see the tired in their eyes and the soreness creeping up even though they have already visited our Athletic Trainer, Shannon, and have been taped down with bags of ice on hips, swollen ankles, and bruised collar bones. It was a cold, winter day in our town. The smallness of our home caused my family and I to have to squeeze into the whole thing. We didn’t have much money, so we had to do what we could with the little that we had. All of the houses in our town were small and broken. All we had in our tiny town were a couple of stores, shops, and the infamous Willy Wonka factory. If I had a ticket in my hand, I would go to the Willy Wonka factory.
To Kill a Mockingbird "I simply want to tell you that there are some men in this world who were born to do our unpleasant jobs for us. Your father's one of them." – Miss Maudie The quote above states that Atticus Finch was a man who did unpleasant things, but this quote is false. Miss Maudie had every good intention when she told Jem and Scout this and her point was taken in the way she intended it to be taken by the children. Her point could have been better worded if the portion that reads "our unpleasant jobs" were replaced with "what is right." Atticus did unpleasant things only because he knew that they were the right thing to do. Miss Maudie told the children about their father in this way only to avoid saying that the rest of the town was wrong.
Once they were back home, they sat at the dining table and started to eat the food. After 30 minutes her Aunt called and asked her to bring over some food. When she walked over to her Aunt’s place the air was colder, but still fresh and crispy. Once she was inside her Aunt’s place she sat down at the kitchen table and said hello to her cousins and Aunt. After grabbing a glass of water from her Aunt’s refrigerator her Aunt asked her to take care of her cousins while they went out to pick up food. She gladly said yes, even though she didn’t want to, but she knew she couldn’t complain and say no. After 10 minutes her Aunt and Uncle left to pick up the food from Boston Market and she was left alone with her cousins. When her Aunt and Uncle came back they started to cook and the house was filled with the smell of turkey, ham, pumpkin and apple pie and mash potatoes with gravy. At 4:00 pm her family came over to her Aunt's place and said hello and sat down at the dining table and waited for the food to be finished cooking. Once the food was ready they all sat down and said thank you to her Aunt and Uncle for cooking the food and talked with each other while they all ate the creamy warm mash potatoes with gravy and the warm and juicy ham and turkey. After everyone finished the food they all enjoyed the sweet and creamy pumpkin and apple pie. After finishing the dinner, everyone said goodbye
It was a typical day until it happened. It Was a sunny day filled with warmth. The mesquites with their unpleasant stings woke me up. I was full of energy and felt like this morning is the best of all my mornings. That was probably because of how I hadn’t slept the day before and was tired. Opening the big window was first on my list. Getting breakfast was the second step and the most important step of all. Fresh eggs from my brown feathered hens were soft surrounded by goat cheese, and well cooked toast. Ordinarily,The place was mute. Only the sound of the wind shaking the old wood was heard. Friends that I knew their parents and I knew how hard it would be for them to know about the lost of their son. Other part of my colleagues (friends) lost body parts as well. The thing that was harder more that the training, was to go to visit those who stayed alive in the hospital. Some of them were in a vegetative state; others got treatment for their wounded parts. Impossible to explain the feeling or the look of those parents standing next to their child’s bad not knowing if they should be happy or sad. With all the pain and the suffer, I have learned to appreciate life, I learned that nothing is taken for granted and every day I wake up it is a day that I received as a gift, if I could be among those wounded or dead soldiers but I did not, instead, I was from those who visit wounded soldiers and not visited by others. It is a sign, this is my destiny, and I must fulfill it in the best way possible.
In the story “How to Tell a True War Story” Bob “Rat” Kiley loses his best friend, Curt Lemon, right in front of him because of a landmine. Dad tried to give the guard twenty dollars, but he refused. Dad shook his hand and thanked him several times. I could go on and on about the rest of our trip but it would take another twenty pages. Unfortunately this was not the last outburst my father had at Disney World. I can tell you one more thing. Through the chaos Dad finally made it to It’s a Small World with his family. It was the biggest smile he showed through the whole trip, but it wasn’t his last. We have been to Disney World twice since then. We still always ride It’s a Small World and I always bring cotton balls for my ears. The cotton keeps my arms from getting tired.
In “Letter to Ma”, Merle Woo writes mostly about her parents learned helplessness; however, Woo also touches on other learned behaviors such as, racism, sexism, and feminism. There are two types of known behaviors, innate and learned. Innate behaviors are reflexes that people are born with and learn behaviors are directly taught or learned from experience. When babies are born they have the innate behavior to close their hands when their palms are touched. People are not born with learned behaviors such as believing in the equality or inequality between genders or races. “Letter to Ma” does a remarkable job of explaining how people are taught to be racist, sexist, or feminist.
O’Brien begins the chapter by explaining about Bob (Rat) Kiley. O’Brien says that Kiley is his close friend in Vietnam, and explains how Kiley’s friend Curt Lemon was killed in the war, and Kiley starts to write a letter to the Lemon’s sister about what happened. Kiley starts talking about all the positive stuff about his friend to O’Brien, and Kiley is in tears when he talks about the things that make them close friends. Rat finally mails the letter, but his friend’s sister never mails him back. O’Brien explains that almost all war stories are immoral. He explains that war stories are never positive, and mostly told by a negative light. O’Brien explains that if someone wanted to hear a true war story, they should talk to Rat Kiley. Later on, O’Brien explains that the guy name is Curt Lemon. The smoke grenades caused Lemon’s death. He explains that some of the soldiers were playing with the grenades and they were not careful with it. This led to his death, and O’Brien explains that Lemon’s death was almost beautiful with Lemon’s handsome face when the sunlight reflecting on him. O’Brien explains that the author has a difficult explaining what is the reality and what they “think” happened in their books. He
The officers park their car, turn off the lights on the top of their car, and get out. They immediately make their way to my father, "Sir, would you mind come over here and talk to us?" They are saying to just talk, but I knew why they were really here, Dad would have to go with them. Dad looks at me, his eyes are now wide and filled with water, he looks terrified. "Sure" Dad chokes out. Mom looked relieved, she turns her attention to me and runs to me and wraps her arms around my body. "I'm sorry, baby girl" she says. "I never wanted you to be apart of this." We listened as Mrs. DeCostia enumerated the names of those involved. “Kat, Tara, Kelly, Alexis, Rob, Joe, Matt, and John.” She announced with annoyance. How is it that all my friends got in trouble for the greatest prank in Fairfield’s 75 year history, but my name was left off that prestigious list? I watched my friend’s proud faces as they walked to the front of the room and I laughed as I heard Matt say “So you caught the people, who perfectly reconstructed your room on the roof of the school, but you will never know who the genius behind it was, and as long as that stays a secret, we’ve done our job.” Then Mrs. DeCostia grabbed him by the shirt collar and dragged him outside. Soon there was a wave of people standing and clapping for their hero, the only person to show Mrs. DeCostia what a horrible person she really was. Apparently since my name had been left off the list, they had no intention of revealing it. But still I got the greatest prize of all, even better than being called up there with them: knowing that it was my idea to take every item out of her room and put it on the roof. Then the phone rang and Dad answered it. It was hard to tell what the conversation was about, it did not last long and Dad didn’t say much. When he hung up he was quiet. Then Mom asked, “Who was that, honey?” Blunt and to the point he said, “Grandma,” (his mom) “Grandpa got sick last night.” Suddenly I was not hungry any more. “What’s that mean?” Mom asked, taking the words right out of my mouth. Dad did not really know. All Grandma said was that Grandpa got up in the night, went to the bathroom, and then yelled for help before collapsing. She called 911 and an ambulance came and got him. From the hospital in Spirit Lake he was life-flighted to Sioux Falls.
