“Erin Brockovich” is a film that was based on a true story. The movie is based on Erin Brockovich, who is a struggling single mom, with two young kids and an infant; and who is in a desperate need of a job and trying to make ends meet. During the movie, Erin lands a job at the Ed Masry’s Law Firm, the same law firm in which her attorney works at. While working at the Ed Masry’s Law Firm, she becomes interested in investigating further on a real estate case about Donna and Peter Jensen and their involvement with the Pacific Gas and Electric Company. While doing her research, she asks if her boss, Ed Masry, can help her throughout the proceedings of her research. While taking further action on her research, she starts to become more passionate about the case and wants justice to be served so that the residents do not have to go through this alone. Throughout the continuation of her research, she starts to interview and persuade the people who live near Donna Jensen and in Hinkley, California about the issue that is going on in the area. She also found a way to get a hold of some incriminating records as evidence and discussed this information with her boss, Ed Masry. While in court, the case was filed as a class-action lawsuit. Afterward, Ed Masry met with the people of Hinkley and told them how the case was going to go and told them that it was leaning more towards a binding arbitration. In the end, it was up to the judge to make the decision of the case. Eventually, she had a case that had the potential of turning her life around. Erin had people try to get over her, including the lawyer she was working with.
Reward power in Detective Doe’s case is very complicated because of the harm extrinsic rewards can have on a person’s intrinsic motivations (Vansteenkiste et al. 2006). Intrinsic motivation is key in Detective Doe’s line of work because many of the people who join the NYPD do so out of a sense of wanting to give back and help communities. By adding more extrinsic rewards or forms of compensation this will take away from the fulfillment of a task and the interest of it as well (Deci 1972). Each position in criminal justice holds power and responsibility, and therefore, it is very important that said people in those positions do not abuse it. Unethical behavior in the criminal justice system takes away trust and respect from authority, and as a consequence, the law is more easily disregarded if the people lack faith in the system. It can, also, contribute to crime and/or cause citizens to not report crimes. Society should have indubitable confidence in the men and women of the criminal justice system. Law enforcement officers violating even the smallest rule could lead to more serious infractions. Syed (1997) states, "Every instance of corruption bends or violates a rule or law and, similar to the granting of impunity, may contribute to an officer's perceptions of the law as applying differently to different people and increase the ease with which violations can be rationalized." Having less than ethical persons in our criminal justice system can lead to a weakened society, the ruining of lives, and even add to crime.

People may have a different definition of what is fair and what is honest, and there are different circumstances where officers may not be able to be honest; such as covert investigations. Society in general determines what our ethical standards and moral principles are. Individual morals vary among all of us as they are what we as an individual consider to be right or wrong. We also have morals that are set by society. These are what we as a society consider to be right or wrong and may go hand in hand with individual morals. Morals change as society and people change, therefore we as a country have to adapt to what the changing morals are.

Some in the community feel that attempting to win money in a court case is unnecessary and in fact will tear the town farther apart. Nicole’s parents are after the money, when others, such as Bear’s parents want to make sure that this amount of pain and suffering does not come upon others in the near future. They are not after the money as much as the answers that a lawsuit will bring about how the accident was caused and allow them some closure.
