Slavery, was a popular way of life in the south. Slaves are also known as personal property's. On slavery, African-Americans were treated horribly. Slavery included resistance and life surviving acts. They had some solutions for slavery as well such as other working machines that pick cotton seeds out of cotton. A slaves life was very cultural such as practicing customs. Slaves lived very culturally in their lives because of their traditional ways. "They continued to enjoy African music and dance. They passed traditional African folk stories to their children."(Page 433) Slaves at the time were very cultural, as you can see. "For the most part, enslaved people resisted slavery by working slowly or by pretending to be ill". This one way that slaves resisted and had a way to not do work. Slaves often did break tools and burnt down building almost like being a protest. "resistance took more active forms, such as setting fire to a plantation building or breaking tools"(Page 434). Slaves, in my opinion, were very smart because they resisted in a smart way which was to act sick or brake tools. One another way slaves resisted was not smart because this was is a way the slave's master can do a very brutal thing to the slave such as to whip them.
