If a person is abandoned by family and lover, then it is a heavy strike to her. William Faulkner’s story describes Emily from an eccentric Southern Noble family becomes the wife who poisons her husband for love. William created Emily and her life involves with the cultural differences of South and North at that time period, so Emily became the victim of North and South. Throughout the story, Emily’s life was cut off from her father’s dictatorship that caused her identity and dignity. Thus, Emily refused any sympathy and charity. However, Emily still eager to get love. She met her lover Homer Barron, Emily is willing to let go of her pride. The world seems not accepting Emily, her father and husband left Emily. Emily was abandoned by the world because of her whole life. Emily’s life is living under the rule of her father, and even “all the young men her father had driven away” (Faulkner 36). Thus, Emily has to rely on her father. Father’s selfish forced Emily cut off the outside world. When her father died and left her nothing except the house, she feels the world has abandoned her. Most people are hoping Emily breaks the chain of her father and learns to get in touch with the outside world, but she still immerses under the influence of her father.
