The Holocaust was a cruel and horrible time in history. It was caused by one man with a name of Adolf Hitler. The Holocaust was a time in history when the Germans wanted the Jewish population extinct. The Holocaust killed 6 million Jews (“Elie”). All of the 6 million Jews died in the concentration camps. One of the those Jews who got sent to the Concentration camp was a boy named Elie Wiesel. Although the Holocaust was a terrible event in history, without it, people would not have learned about Elie Wiesel. People would not have learned about this Holocaust survivor who experienced the traumatic events firsthand. Elie Wiesel was born in Sighet, Romania on September 30th, 1928 (Wiesel). Elie Wiesel was Jewish and he died in 2016 (Wiesel) He had three sisters. The names of the sisters who survived were Beatrice and Hilda (Elie). Elie Wiesel’s hobbies were very interesting. When he was a kid, he read a lot of newspapers and he “started religious studies as soon as he could speak”. He loved mystical tradition and folk tales of the Hassidic Sect of Judaism. The life lesson that Wiesel and I learned was that we shouldn’t take anything for granted. We never know when death is going to come knocking on our doors and take us or the people we love. Another lesson that we learned that discrimination will not help with anything. Hitler was killing millions of Jews and he got nothing accomplished out of it. Discrimination is a horrible opinion that nobody should have. The holocaust has emotionally and physically scarred the survivors for life. Elie Wiesel has become a very successful journalist and teacher. Wiesel has put the past behind and started a new life.
