In Eleven, author Sandra Cisneros reveals a theme: Coming of age. Thus, this story is about Rachel expecting to feel eleven but she doesn’t. It makes her feel annoyed and irritated. But, the story takes place at school, in the classroom when Ms. Price claimed that ugly sweater was Rachel’s. The main character, Rachel, has a conflict when the teacher and she had an argument about a sweater that wasn’t hers. The author writes, “when you're eleven, you're also ten, and nine, and eight, and seven, and six, and five, and four, and three, and two, and one ”. I read a book about the Boston Massacre the was originally named the bloody massacre. The amount of killed persons is generally accepted to be 5 people. The Fifth of March is a 1993 novel about the Boston Massacre (of March 5, 1770) by historian and author Ann Rinaldi, who was also the author of many other historical fiction novels such as Girl in Blue and A Break with Charity. This book is about a young indentured servant girl named Rachel Marsh who finds herself changing as she meets many people, including young Matthew Kilroy, a British private in the 29th regiment.
I read the book Before We Were Free by Julia Alvarez. Anita, an eleven year old girl, is suddenly sent into a very scary and unknown world, right in her own home. Her cousins are running away to the United states, but to get away from what? Her parents are keeping secrets and she tries to get information from her sister, but finds out very little. Anita finds herself struggling when she is forced to grow up very quickly and try not to act as scared as she feels at times. The poem is about a girl who cheated on an art contest to make her mother proud. Then she wants to tell her mother the truth, but also doesn’t want to lose her mother's proud face.
