Some may think that genres such as dubstep are just created by pressing a button, or simply putting everything together in one move. Truth is, making electronic dance music is an art that takes years and years to master, with so many factors coming into play such as composition, EQing, compression, mastering, and just getting a melody in your head to the computer. In the golden era of technology, making electronic dance music has never been as accessible to anyone with headphones and a computer. Starting out is the same way any other practice or hobby is started; playing around and getting a feel for what program you're using. There are about 3 main virtual studio softwares that most producers use; FL Studio, Ableton, and Logic. Often what will happen is that you get the roughly the main idea down, and work from there. A song always turns into something much bigger than the original idea opon figuring out what could help the song advance and make it better. Having a physical piano keyboard makes it easier to draw down ideas because you can just hit "Record" and play it out rather than popping in each and every individual note on the virtual piano-roll. When it comes to making a song commericially loud and getting the maximum clarity out of a song, thats where things such as EQing and compression come in. EQing and compression makes it where each sound will stay at the level of volume its at regardless of how louder something else might get, and will make, say, 5 sounds or melodies sound like just 1 sound rather than being able to pay attention to each sound on its own. This stage of the production process is what sets you apart from amatuers, where its often almost a competition in where who has the best quality
