Mainstreaming Students with Disabilities
There are multiple different types of disabilities that a student can have. They can have something physically wrong with them but not have anything mentally wrong. A student can have something mentally wrong, but nothing physically wrong. Depending on the situation this could be simply just a learning disability or something more severe. If there is something medically wrong with a student they will be placed on a plan as well. Why should this affect the way a student learns?
There are a few ways that students can learn. The first way is a resource room. A resource room is a classroom that students with disabilities can get a more specialized education (Watson). In this room students with a disability will get a more specialized education that will most benefit their disability. Each student who goes to the resource room has a different plan. Each student also has a different amount of time they can be in they are in the resource room based on their educational need (Watson). The resource rooms have been created to help the student (Watson). The students’ goals come first.
Another way students with disabilities can learn. They can be taught using a method called inclusion. As found in the article Mainstreaming Special Education in the Classroom it states, “Inclusion involves bringing special education services to a child who is in regular classes, rather than bringing child to the services (in a special education classroom)” (“Mainstreaming”). On the other hand a student can be mainstreamed into a classroom which is when students who need a special education are given the chance to be in one class, that they have to earn because they are not ready for the full inclusion yet (“Mainstream...

... disability or not the teacher will have a challenging time. The teachers are with the students most of the time out of the day. They see the children often time, more than the parents. If a teacher supports, encourages, and helps a students with disabilities they will be more likely to succeed. Students with disabilities need the positive reinforcement to help them thrive. What is better than seeing a student with a disability succeed because of the help of a teacher?
Teachers are truly a gift. The teacher’s aides who stay with a student who has disabilities are also angels sent from heaven. They impact the student with disabilities more than they could ever know. They truly have the impact on the student of whether they succeed or not. That sounds like a lot of pressure for a teacher or teacher’s aide, but they seemingly make it easy and help the student succeed.
