The term ecology can either refer to a branch of biology that deals with the relations of organisms to one another and to their physical surroundings, or it can be seen as a political movement that seeks to protect the environment, especially from pollution. However, for the purposes of this paper, I will refer to ecology a science and the study of the interactions of living things with one another. According to Duncanson and many other American citizens, this science, as well as the other sciences regarding the environment cannot fully protect us when the Earth fights back. In the documentary An Inconvenient Truth, the former Vice President, Al Gore discusses his campaign to educate citizens about the causes and effects of global warming. Because we are currently in voting season I compared this thought to voting, another American right. If everyone had the attitude that they were not going to vote because they thought everyone else was going to it for them, or their vote doesn’t matter, then no one would vote and there would not be a true democracy. Therefore, if everyone had the attitude that I do not need to worry about the environment because the Earth is too big for me to make an impact, then the Earth would be much more unhealthy and fall apart even quicker. I believe this is where the title An Inconvenient Truth come from.
