Imagine this: Your mouth is dry. You are completely parched, and yet it is still almost impossible to access a decent drinking fountain in order to fill up your water bottle. The awful drinking fountains in our school are slow, dirty and are not good for students to use. Students are becoming unhealthy, wasting their money and not learning as much as they should be. The fountains are causing problems within the school system and need to be replaced. Therefore, EJMHS’s school board must replace old drinking fountains with new ones that contain built-in water bottle fillers because they increase health, save money and improve academics.

In particular, they would save school money. Every school, including East Jordan Middle High School has a dumpster, and they cost quite a decent amount of money to be emptied. Plastic water bottles take up a plethora of space in the garbage; consequently, each time the dumpster is emptied there are numerous amounts of plastic water bottles that get thrown away. If the old drinking fountains were replaced with new, water bottle filling fountains, plastic water bottles would not be thrown away as often at school. This means that space in the garbage would be saved, the dumpster would not have to be emptied as often and school spending would decrease. In addition, replacing the drinking fountains will save members of the student body’s money. Frequently, students buy drinks such as juice, soda, and water from the school vending machines. That costs students $1.50 or more every time a drink is bought, which eventually adds up to a great deal of money. By replacing the old fountains, they will not be wasting their money, and therefore will help students to save money. Lastly, new drinking fountains will save cafeteria money. Numerous student buy their plastic water bottles every morning from the cafeteria.This means that the cafeteria has to buy water bottles and store them in their fridge until a student purchases them. If the old drinking fountains are replaced, the cafeteria will not have to buy such a large supply of water bottles and store them for students. This means that the cafeterias money will be saved because they will not have to spend extra money on the reusable water bottles because students will be filling up their own water bottles more frequently. All in all, the school should replace the drinking fountains because they save school money, student money and cafeteria
