Imagine this: Your mouth is dry. You are completely parched, and yet it is still almost impossible to access a decent drinking fountain in order to fill up your water bottle. The awful drinking fountains in our school are slow, dirty and are not good for students to use. Students are becoming unhealthy, wasting their money and not learning as much as they should be. The fountains are causing problems within the school system and need to be replaced. Therefore, EJMHS’s school board must replace old drinking fountains with new ones that contain built-in water bottle fillers because they increase health, save money and improve academics.

In particular, they would save school money. Every school, including East Jordan Middle High School has a dumpster, and they cost quite a decent amount of money to be emptied. Plastic water bottles take up a plethora of space in the garbage; consequently, each time the dumpster is emptied there are numerous amounts of plastic water bottles that get thrown away. If the old drinking fountains were replaced with new, water bottle filling fountains, plastic water bottles would not be thrown away as often at school. This means that space in the garbage would be saved, the dumpster would not have to be emptied as often and school spending would decrease. In addition, replacing the drinking fountains will save members of the student body’s money. Frequently, students buy drinks such as juice, soda, and water from the school vending machines. That costs students $1.50 or more every time a drink is bought, which eventually adds up to a great deal of money. By replacing the old fountains, they will not be wasting their money, and therefore will help students to save money. Lastly, new drinking fountains will save cafeteria money. Numerous student buy their plastic water bottles every morning from the cafeteria.This means that the cafeteria has to buy water bottles and store them in their fridge until a student purchases them. If the old drinking fountains are replaced, the cafeteria will not have to buy such a large supply of water bottles and store them for students. This means that the cafeterias money will be saved because they will not have to spend extra money on the reusable water bottles because students will be filling up their own water bottles more frequently. In the first article "The Curse of Water Bottles" the author is obviously trying to convince people to stop wasting bottles and recycle. For example "There are solutions like using your own personal water bottle and refilling it" and that would save from buying water bottles, and reduce some of the waste. Plastic water bottles are very convenient, but are also a big scam. It is very important for people to stay hydrated. Water bottles allow people to stay hydrated while they are out of the house. People don't want to become tired from being dehydrated, so they bring water with them. Water bottles are very popular, even though most of them are just tap water. The three texts I read, all show advantages and disadvantages of plastic water bottles. Each article also uses all three persuasive appeals, ethos, pathos and logos.

The FDA, which is the only organization that regulates the bottle water should put in effect stronger regulations in order to have more control over the water that is being sold to people.

Kids will go after sugary and unhealthy beverage. That will make kids be obese, and the health care to treat the kids will be rising. Then the U.S obesity rate will rise and our economy will be destroyed. So, don’t ban bottle water, it plays an important role for us. Water is one of the most beneficial resources ever known. You can live without food for a few weeks, but if you don’t have water you can die within days. I think bottle water is better than tap. Bottle water saves lives, and if you ban bottled water why can’t people ban the sugary and unhealthy drinks. Water scarcity is harmful to human life because when water is poorly managed throughout the world, those who need water are deprived of nutrients they truly need, causing them to die. This eventually affects the global population. Therefore, many experts have proposed several solutions such as the LifeSaver Bottle, TrojanUVPhox treatment system, and Waste Water Recycling. The problem of water scarcity has increasingly spread throughout the world as of yet, The UN reports that within the next half- century up to 7 billion people in 60 countries which is more than the whole present population will face water scarcity (Sawin “Water Scarcity could Overwhelm the Next Generation”). As well, the demand for freshwater has tripled over the past 50 years, and is continuing to rise as a result of population growth and economic development.
As of this year, nearly 1.1 billion people live without clean drinking water and 2.6 billion live without adequate water sanitation. The McDonald's down the street, however, will sell you a 1/3 pounder burger for only 150 gallons. Changes in lifestyle can easily reduce this number and help not only save water, but money as well. Currently, with our diminishing water supply, one of the main goals of humanitarian organizations is ensuring that everyone has the right and equality to water. In the United States, people consume water mainly from tap water and bottle water. However, the consumption between these two sources is not even but lean to one side heavily. The extremely unbalance of bottled water consumption implies that a commonly hold conception exists: bottle water is superior to tap water. In fact, scientific evidence proves that tap water is nothing different than bottle water. More importantly, the excessive consumption of bottled water is an irrational use of resources and creates severe environmental issues.
