Recommended: The importance of ethics in sports

“Doping” that is the termed used for Performance Enhancing Drugs which is a very big concern in professional sports today. These drugs are used to increase strenght and weight, they also improve the athletes endurance so they can have more time on the field.In all sports these drugs are illegal for the simple fact it is consider cheating; some argue that they should be allowed to use these drugs. That is not true. The law of sports is honesty, and that’s not honest if drugs are required to win. These athletes are role models for the younger generation watching them, and if these athletes are caught using performance enhancing drugs then inducted into the Hall of Fame.What does that show for our younger generation? According to Bill Simmons some the best players such as Mark Mcgwire, Sammy Sosa, Barry Bonds these players were all busted for performance enhancing drugs and were still inducted into the Hall of Fame. This is showing our kids that it is okay to cheat and it be okay because they can still be inducted into the Hall of Fame.According to World Anti-Doping Agency sports are valuable for young people because they demonstrate. “ Honesty, Excellence in performance, teamwork, dedication, respect for rules, and courage. (Procon.org). These six things are very big keys in any sports and if we teach our young people to obey and go by these then its just as fair for us to make professionals obey these? If they are using performance enhancing drugs then they are breaking all of these and it teaches our kids that it is okay to cheat and not go these six steps. According to Radley Balko steroids are drugs just like cocaine and marijuana and if the government catches people with drugs like these then they give them a very long jail se... ... middle of paper ... ...ers take medication they don’t want the public to know about so it invades the privacy of the players (Debate.org). I do not believe in this, I feel like if athletes are in professional sports they should be a role model and shouldn’t care what people think if that romodel is not doing anything they shouldn’t mind to be drug tested. In conclusion, professional athletes should be tested for performance enhancing drugs. They are role models for young adults and it has a lot of health concerns. If they are using performance enhancing drugs it gives players an unfair advantage, also fans and recrutiers should be able to trust our professional athletes, they should have nothing to hide. I do not believe it invades the privacy. They are around the media everyday so it should not invade their privacy. But this is how I feel on professional athletes being drug tested.
