Donald Trump-Super Supervisor What makes a person a good business leader? A popular consensus seems to be that a good leader is able to not only understand each employee’s needs and abilities, but also motivate and empower that employee to use his abilities to the full. This requires that a leader take the time to understand the employee and to develop him to his full potential. In addition, a group of Fortune 500 executives stated that they “value…flexibility..., and communication skills” (Terry, 2001, p.1). These executives also related, “Employers’ wish lists for new leaders include charisma, the ability to inspire others, the courage to take risks, awareness of one’s own strong and weak points, the respect of peers, ethnic diversity, and a zest for continuous learning” (Terry, 2001, p.1). There are many other traits that earmark a good supervisor; for instance setting a “good example,” being efficient, thorough, and dedicated. “Flexibility” is also important. It is necessary to provide employees with “training and feedback.” A good supervisor is “consistent and fair.” A good supervisor also provides his staff with “recognition for a job well done” (Merit, 1998, p.1). Several self-made millionaires have attained success as business leaders. John Bogle, founded a company called Vanguard. “His unique ideas about investing helped him create the first index fund, and the world's second-largest mutual funds company.” Jake Burton Carpenter founded Burton Snowboards by turning his “passion for snowboarding into a business, jump-starting an industry and an Olympic sport.” Scott Cook founded Intuit, the developer of Quicken software. This company was the result trying to make his wife’s bill paying experience easier. The result? A $2 billion public company. Donna Dubinsky founded a $241 million company called Handspring. Robert Johnson founded BET Network, the first African American cable network. This venture eventually made Mr. Johnson $3 billion. (Merit, 1998, p.1). What all of these people share is a vision, and a dream. They are efficient, dedicated and flexible. They didn’t give up, and they didn’t lose sight of their vision. Another self-made millionaire, and business leader is Donald Trump. Although he is probably most well known for the reality show The Apprentice, Mr. Trump’s career began with his “father’s real estate business after he completed his st... ... middle of paper ... ... Donald Trump can be appreciated for his cunning business savvy and an ability to at various times throughout his career, make it big. By co-creating this reality show with Mark Burnett, not only has he capitalized on the public's desire to fantasize about (and for a precious few, compete for) achieving a high-profile, financially lucrative career as a business mogul, he has also brought to the mainstream audience a heated, emotional and stimulating debate about something that we all seem to have an opinion on: what it takes to be a great leader.
Donald Trump is a person well worth admiring for many reasons. He is one of the most successful people in the world. Many people admire him as do many people hate him. While becoming successful most tend to make enemies. “Among them are the world-renowned Fifth Avenue skyscraper, Trump Tower, and the luxury residential buildings, Trump Parc, Trump Palace, Trump Plaza, 610 Park Avenue, The Trump World Tower (the tallest building on the East Side of Manhattan), and Trump Park Avenue.”(Donald J. Trump). This quote just shows exactly how successful he is. These are just some of the things he owns. He owns several more. For instance, one of these towers is much more than how much an average person would make in a lifetime. Trump also owns golf courses, parks, and just about anything you can think of, he probably owns. Now if none of this is appealing to you i don't know what
Everyone has a different definition of what makes someone a leader. My definition is not a statement of requirements, but more so a list of characteristics. I believe it takes a strong, independent, dependable, open-minded, thoughtful, selfless, smart and creative, someone who can work well with others, able to work under pressure, respectful, and experienced individual to be a leader. I believe it is someone who knows who they are and know their morals, someone who has already found who they are in life and accepts who they are, making what I believe the most important characteristic is, is someone who knows and sticks with their personal values. If someone cannot respect values and stick to their word, then how can they be a leader of others? A leader takes a lot of work, but if you are good at it, it may seem like nothing. Some people are leaders and do not even know it, like role models. When little kids look up to certain people that have impacted their lives in a way, they will see those people as role models. Truth is, leaders are everywhere and not everyone knows or can see that. It's not always the person who stands out for taking control or being bossy, but the one with the characteristics and high values that do the right things, even when no one is watching.
The opposition would argue that trump inherited his entire fortune which, which is incredibly untrue. Trump inherited forty million dollars from his father. Now trump has more than twenty times that number. Currently Trump is worth about five billion dollars. They would also argue that Trump has too many failed businesses. Not everyone can be successful with everything they do one hundred percent of the time and as humans everyone is going to make a few mistakes within their lives. Trump Steaks, a company created by Donald. J. Trump, was an idea he had to serve only the top of the line steaks costing at least fifty dollars per cut. The downfall of the company was do to health violations caused by management in the company. While the company was shut down, it was not all without profit. Trump was able to see that with success, comes failure, a lesson that everybody will at some point learn. His success rate with his businesses is at about fifty percent. Some would argue that fifty percent success rate is awful, but with this success rate, he was still able to sell and/or file bankruptcy for the

Leadership can be defined as the way through which one individual has impacts and influences the attitudes and behavior of other people at a workplace. The tasks of leaders in corporations include organizational as well as departmental activities. Leaders are responsible fr coordination of these activities so as to reach the goals successfully by motivating and inspiring team members. (DUYGULU, Ethem and Ciraklar, Nurcan, 2008). Besides, leaders are supposed to resolve issues by avoiding conflicting situations related to work and strive to boost progress on achieving the overall objectives of a company. Moreover, great leaders provide the required knowledge,

Donald Trump started early to develop his personal brand, this is exhibited by every piece of real estate Mr. Trump owns. Every casino, building or golf course has his name on it. There are leaders everywhere. They run countries, schools, businesses, churches, etc. What makes a good leader, one that has good relationship with the employees, exceeds production goals, or a combination of both? Each leader has their own style. It may have started out different than where they are in their current situation. There are a number of leadership theories; however, five will be discussed here.

The best characteristics for an effective leader are integrity, passion, patience, transparency, innovation, and a good listener (active listening). Matthews, G., Deary, I. J., & Whiteman, M. C. (2009). Personality traits. Cambridge, UK: Cambridge University Press.
In my opinion, a true leader looks out for and motivates his subordinates. As a result, the leader gets the very best from his workers. A leader is not afraid of conflict because a leader handles conflict professionally and works to find a solution that benefits the team. A great leader makes decisions that are in the best interest of the group. A great leader keeps the lines of communication open because a great leader understands that he does not know everything.
When we work together in a team, or in a broader sense as a society, the leader takes on the most important role. It is the leader that helps prioritize activities and direct people’s thought process in the right direction. They are the ones who have the ability to bring the group together as a whole. Because of this, not anyone can be a leader. Only people with certain qualities and abilities are able to fill this role. So what makes a good leader? There is a defined path and specific characteristics that makes someone a good leader.
