During the presidential elections of 2016, Donald Trump proposed that a way to promise “safety from terrorists” and “decreasing rates of unemployment” would be attained by building a wall on the border between Mexico and the United States. Throughout the entire election Trump continued to revisit his idea of “the wall” as a way to decrease crime and unemployment and not only that, but Mexico would be the one paying for this wall. That must have been a favorable opinion because in November, much to the surprise of millions, he was elected the 45th President of the United States of America. Now that his promises have been made, the fiction behind them is what is actually becoming the reality, rather than the wall itself. Although Trump and his supporters have many …show more content…
To begin, Trump and his supporters formed the opinion that the reason behind such high unemployment rates in the United States is due to the illegal immigrants taking jobs from United States citizens. During Trump’s campaign, he stated in an interview that “foreign workers weigh down salaries, keep unemployment high, and make it difficult for Americans and immigrants to earn middle-class wage” (Valverde 1). Trump and his supporters believe that the building of this wall will be a great benefit to the rate decreasing: however, there have been threats that these illegal immigrants will continue to cross the border, whether that is digging a tunnel under the wall, or emigrating from a different location. Studies have been done in the past few years, and “analysis from Jed Kolko, shows that recent immigrants are much more likely to be highly educated and to have found jobs in industries involving
In his essay, “The Fence of Lies,” Mario Vargas Llosa explores the potential consequences of building a wall across the Mexican-American border. He argues that, if built, the wall would be ineffective and a waste of resources. He proposes that the money allotted for the border wall be used instead to offer better job opportunities to Latin American citizens within their own borders. However, this proposal is unrealistic as it offers no real solutions to the economic problem of illegal immigration, nor is it an effective plan.
Donald Trump, to portray a parallel, had his heart set on building a wall along the border of the United States and Mexico in order to eliminate the issue of illegal immigration. Not only was Trump convinced that he would be able to build a wall, Trump believed that he could force Mexico into financing the colossal project. Although Mexican president Enrique Pena Nieto asserted that Mexico would not handle the fees, Trump considered to insist that he would get Mexico to pay for the large scale architectural project. Trump conveyed wooden headedness by simply refusing to acknowledge the fact that Mexico would not help with the payment. Trump came into the entire situation with a overly confident approach, which seems to enhance the degree of wooden headedness.Trump was able to ignore the flaws, or facts, that seemed to hinder the possibility of the success of his plan by approaching the situation in a conceited
One of the most important aspects of a presidential nominee is the candidate political ideology, and how that candidate transforms their ideology into vision with specific agenda that they can convince voters of. When we look at Donald Trump’s official campaign site we see seven position or stances on an issues that trump has chosen to center his campaign around was one of the main issues Trump addressed in every stump speech he gave during the primary. The first one listed is a step by step process in which he will build a giant wall between the border of the United States, and Mexico will pay for this far. Trump feels so confidently that this will happen he has even mapped it out day by day after he takes office of presidency stating, “On day 2 Mexico will immediately protest. They receive approximately $24 billion a year in remittances from Mexican nationals working in the United States. The majority of that amount comes from illegal aliens. It serves as de facto welfare for poor families in Mexico. There is no significant social safety net provided by the state in Mexico. On day 3 tell Mexico that if the Mexican government will contribute the

Donald Trump, a current Republican front-runner, is well known for his presidential campaign and its harsh policies on illegal immigration between Mexico and the United States, which are largely similar to the 1930’s repatriation movement. His policy on Mexican immigration states, “The influx of foreign workers holds down salaries, keeps unemployment high, and makes it difficult for poor and working class Americans… to earn a middle class wage.” This is almost identical to a claim that was made during the Great Depression, and his plans for solving the crisis are also identical to the efforts made during the Repatriation; welfare refusal to immigrant families, job denial, and mass deportation of roughly 11 million Mexican immigrants. Though the thought of these plans going through may seem unachievable, history shows that they can be --and have been --
On November 12, 2015 Donald Trump gave a speech in Fort Dodge at a community college. In this speech he talks about borders in the United States and how we have such relaxed borders compared to any other country, where you get fined a lot of money, prison time or even killed for crossing their borders illegally. While, in America you get a job, healthcare, and education, Trump believes that 's why we are in debt. Illegal immigrants, also can have babies in America and they automatically become legal citizens and Donald Trump call them "anchor babies".
Three weeks ago, Trump’s title elevated from GOP candidate to president-elect. Following this revelation, protests erupted and injured countless civilians and law enforcers. Even high schoolers, trapped in the wrong place at the wrong time, have been tear gassed and endangered through the protests. Yet, these protests determine nothing: on January 20th, Donald Trump will still become president. While hatred continues to simmer below the surface, protesters slowly realize that their street performances cannot ensure a better future, only a violent present. As they become discredited about the state of their country, the democrat’s anger morphs into anxiety. With a president-elect, who, in the past three weeks, has altered his platform and changed
The United States of America is known as the nation of freedom, a place to make dreams come true, and where equal rights are followed. However, our education in history shows a different perspective. The citizens have had a complicated time convincing the mind of Congress on modifying the rights of the people. Before, women could not vote to choose the future of America, yet after many marches, the women who rose up to speak with great fervor accomplished their goal of making it possible for women to vote. The Presidential Election is a time for people to vote for the leader of the country. As I turn 18 yrs old, I have the opportunity to vote for this country’s future. What led me to the desire of voting was hearing Donald Trump’s negative
Have you ever wondered how some athletes have gotten so good at a certain sport? Have you ever thought about what they did in order for them to get this good? For some the answer is simple; workout and train. But for others the answer is different; the use of performance enhancing drugs such as steroids. There are some people that argue that steroids should be legalized and allowed in professional sports. Other people argue that steroids should not be allowed. Today I am going to state my opinion and justify my reason. Steroids should not be allowed in professional sports because it can be very dangerous to the athlete’s health, it is a way to gain and un-fair advantage and it can be dangerous in both social and physical aspects.
America’s president Donald Trump once said “a nation without borders is not a nation.” He represents a majority of people in America today. Individuals have gone far enough to wanting to build a wall border between Mexico and The United States. They also say that Mexico will pay for the wall, and if they don't there will be many consequences including impounding all remittance payments obtained from illegal wages, increasing costs of visa, charging more at entry ports and many other things (Top,4.) A wall will not fix
A plethora of studies show that illegal immigrants take away jobs from United States natives (Corsi 109). Arguably, this is because of their willingness to work for very low wages including those below the minimum wage. “Currently illegal immigrants are mostly doing jobs Americans do not want to do” (Desai 431). Despite a lack of legal documents, illegal immigrants have continued to work in public school systems, stable jobs, construction, fast food industry, hotel industry and restaurants (Corsi 108). The influx in the number of illegal immigrants has not only increased competition in the job market but also created low paying jobs. Furthermore, the jobs would pay more and in return become more attractive if illegal immigrants ...
In the upcoming presidential election, one of the most popular topics is that of illegal immigration. Leading Republican candidate Donald J. Trump has run a campaign heavily anti-illegal immigration. He proposes reform in American immigration, specifically from Mexico. Many politicians and political activists argue that undocumented immigrants take job-positions from American workers and cost federal, state, and local governments considerably large amounts of money per year in law enforcement, education, and healthcare services. U.S. citizens are passionate to restore their economy, and many have adopted a very xenophobic attitude towards immigration amidst the new presidential debates. In order to restore our economy, many people believe that
Immigrants not only represent the low-income jobs but also the high wages jobs. For instance, we find immigrants in the labor field of dentists, engineers, or nurses. They are part of the three sectors of the economy, the low, the middle and the high paid jobs. Now, there is enough evidence that shows that in the long run, immigrants do not reduce employments for Americans. According to Costa (et al), “in the short run immigrants may reduce Americans’ unemployment because the economy takes time to adjust to new immigration.” Of course this depends on the economic, politic, and social environment. Nevertheless, if the economy is growing and there are creations of firms, products, or services, there will also be a creation of new jobs, including for those Americans who are less
Also, various reasons have been voiced regarding why the Trump immigration reforms plan may fail. Politician Gavin Newsom from California posits that the construction of a border wall is impractical and pointless. According to him, the idea would be hindered by mountains, rivers, private, and tribal lands along the frontier among other challenges (Rosenfeld). Further, there have been concerns that the wall will not stop relocation into the USA as immigrants have been able to cross over in spite of the upgraded border security. The most important argument so far aired against the plan is that the success of the deportation agenda will cause adverse effects on the economy. By deporting millions of people, the nation will lose significant number workers, especially farmers. According to Gavin, about 6% of the American workforce is made up of immigrants and sending them home is risky for the financial
