Donald Trump has been saying misogynistic and sexist remarks for a very long time. Mr. Trump disagrees with the media and the people that are accusing him of being sexist. However, once it has been said the world cannot forget about these claims since it is such a controversial issue. It is not false because reporters and news anchors have physical evidence of his remarks. This raises the question of whether Trump is a true sexist or just doing so to keep up the show. Phrases and terms that will be mentioned are misogyny, sexism and criticizing womanhood. Misogyny means hatred of women. Sexism means the prejudice and discrimination of a sex, usually women. Trump is belittling the importance of sexual abuse and minimizes what it is. He makes it look like it is not a big when it is one of the leading problems in the country. This occurred again during a radio show hosted by Howard Stern. According to an article by Guardian, stated that “In 2006, when Howard Stern told Trump he was ‘a sexual predator’, he nodded with a laugh while his daughter Ivanka--a self-described supporter of women -- giggled and patted her father’s shoulder.” Trump, himself, admitted being a sexual predator. Granted, in a joking manner but it still shows some truth into that statement but because he laughed it off, many are stating that he has diminished the issue. Instead of celebrating a monumental milestone for women's rights, we are forced to endure four years with someone who does not value women. Of specific concern under Trump as President, is the right of women to have an abortion (Roe vs. Wade 1973), maternity benefits for single mothers, wage equality and mistreatment of women in general. Trump is anti-abortion and if this right is taken away from women, it would be a significant blow to feminism and our strides toward equality. And, in Maloney’s article, paid maternity leave is something that might be possible, except for those that are single mothers, “women can only receive the paid leave if their marriage is "recognized under state law.” There are over 12 million single parents in the United States and 80% of those are single mothers. Sexism is a highly talked about issue read about online, seen in the news, and experienced in the day to day lives of many. The importance of this issue can be found in many writings. Authors such as Sandra Cisneros, Linda Hasselstrom, and Judy Brady have all discussed the topic of sexism in writings and how they affected their lives. Although each writer addresses the issue of sexism, each author confronts a different type of sexism; the kind we are born into, the kind we learn growing up, and the kind that is accepted by society at the end of the day.

The basic definition of sexism is when a person of either sex is discriminated against in any way based on their gender. But history has recorded that men, usual in every society in this world, have always been the dominant sex and women have taken a lower role. This has been especially true in the United States throughout its history. Women always seemed to be the one who took care of the children and home as the men went to work and earned a living. Women do not have the choice to give birth to children, but they should have a choice in whether they are the primary care givers to that child. It’s still ‘mother, mother, mother,’ when it really should be ‘mother, father, society.’”1 What she means by this is that society still has not overcome the discriminatory thought that the mother should not work and stay home with the kids.
At a young age people learned sexist ways and how to say things, but they were never told that it was sexist. During the Republican debate on August 6, 2016, Trump had a falling out with Fox correspondent Megyn Kelly after she questioned him about some of his comments on women, where he referred to them as “’fat pigs’, ‘dogs’, ’slobs’, and ‘disgusting animals’,” (Bahadur). Trump went on to say Megyn was just a “bimbo” and he “did not recognize” the remarks she had said (Bahadur). Rape is a very traumatic experience, and the lack of respect he showed towards the women who are laying down their lives for America is very telling of how he views women. Lucentio come to Padua to study, but when he sees a beautiful girl, he pretends to be a teacher in order to marry Bianca. Sexism is ingrained in the American culture starting with children at a young age. The sayings ‘You throw like a girl, or you run like a girl,” is sexism at an elementary level, it states that the child performing that action is inferior. The discrimination materializes when these children choose the female last or do not include her in the activity. Discriminatory television series and commercials portray women as beautiful, sexy and weak, while most of their male counterparts are ordinary, chubby and strong.
