Balancing the Penn Foster College Veterinary Technology curriculum with work and family is often challenging for me. Distance learning is so much different from a conventional classroom. There is no opportunity to exchange ideas with another classmate face-to-face, or have personal contact with a teacher to ask questions and get clarification on a given assignment. Yes, there is the student forum for posting questions, as well as e-mail and the telephone, but they are not the same. How do I make efficient use of time without going over the semester limit? For some, it can be effortless. For me, some of the courses can be tedious. I tell myself I will get my schoolwork done in a reasonable amount of time and allocate that time accordingly, …show more content…
For me, it was Biology in the first semester when I made the mistake of not opening the book for the first three months, and now English Composition in the second, but I know I will not make that same mistake again. If I spend too much time away from any given subject, I end up having to review the material from the beginning, sometimes leaving me with the feeling of figuratively wanting to throw my books out the window but always fatigued. I try to give myself enough time to study each day, even if it is only for 15 minutes to avoid feeling this …show more content…
I have used a similar method in dog training with antsy pooches trying to learn something new, by going over a previous or ending a current lesson. I sometimes go back to my high school days to recall what worked then, for instance, if I accomplish an assignment, I may reward myself by taking a break. The first Penn Foster book we received, Strategies for the Independent Learner, is my number one reference guide and it contains a wealth of information pertaining to creating and maintaining a structured learning environment, learning styles and self teaching aides like skimming just to name a few. I need at least two cups of coffee daily in order to function properly, both mentally and physically. While having it, I do happy things like read and possibly respond to some of my e-mail. After I finally wake up, on days off from work, I complete some household chores, review past course material to build my confidence, or do a simple exercise for mind stimulation like play “Hangman” on my Franklin
The efficiency of online learning versus face-to-face instruction is a growing controversial topic. In his article, “Can You Be Educated from a distance?”, James Barszcz weighs the benefits and disadvantages of online education. In his essay, he discusses the fundamentals and overall quality of distance education, as well as the rationale behind the growing trend. He argues that observation of teachers and social aspects of traditional learning are important for true education, rather than simply obtaining information. Barszcz uses thorough juxtaposition between distance and traditional classrooms unbiasedly so the differences between the two types of education are easily seen, while constant use of studies and surveys add justification to his argument.
Next, there are time constraints that come into play when a student is assigned enormous amounts of homework. Some who do unrestricted homework assigning may find this difficult to believe, but us humble students do have lives. Many of us have part time jobs, extra-circular activities, volunteering, and general work to attend to.
Now that I am well into my sophomore year of college, I think that I finally have a good idea about time management. Being a full time student in twenty credit hours that is working part time can feel overwhelming at times. There were times in the last year where I felt like I had too much to do, and not enough time. This caused me so much stress, but I couldn’t be mad at anyone but myself. I procrastinated by spending too much time watching TV, and on social media. However, that was not the case at all. Luckily, with time I have learned to get ahead when possible, and to make to-do list. That allows me to get assignments done

Should online courses be offered in more colleges? Today, there is a growing demand of students who are determined to pursue their education without having to go to school. The critics of online education argue that traditional teaching in classrooms is better than online education. However, online courses should be offered in more colleges.
Prioritizing time is critical due to ways of learning and levels of energy. When studying, get in the habit of beginning with the most difficult subject or task. You will be fresh, and have more energy to take them on when you are at your best. For more difficult courses of study, try to be flexible: for example, build in reaction time when you can get feedback on assignments before they are due (“Time Management” n.d.).
When it comes to our personal and professional lives, Managing your time efficiently should be a mastered ability. As a student, this could have a huge effect on performance and grades. Seeing that Time Management is imperative when it comes to college and success, recognizing bad habits, should be one of the first obstructions immediately eliminated from your daily schedule. Create new habits if you tend to procrastinate and start planning ahead to manage your most important priorities. According to David Allen (2001),"Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity" (p.59) "changes in the way you clarify and organize all things that command your attention-could represent a significant shift in how you approach some key aspects of your day to day work." Setting up deadlines and completing your assignments a few days before the due date will eliminate the procrastination stage. Creating a list with the most important priorities first, will help sort out your assignments and eliminate stress and feeling overwhelmed.
For at least one hundred years, distance learning has been a method of teaching and learning. Distance learning simply means the process of knowledge transfer from instructor or teacher to learners or students by time or physical distance and through the use of internet, video, CD’s, tapes and any other forms of technology to accomplish learning. This essay will argue that distance learning is the best learning method for students in the Pacific Region. Firstly, I will discuss why it is the best learning mode for students in the Pacific. Then, I will give reasons as to why it is not good for student in the Pacific Region.
Time management is not a new idea and many methods have been proposed regarding the best way to handle time management issues for business students. These suggestions can often be quite simple, such as writing down lists of things to do in order to support people in making good use of their time for work or recreational purposes. When time pressures are high, planning tasks and actions does not always lead to the completion of the work. It is in recognition of this that time management training programs have been designed, aiming to give an insight into the time required for activities, ways to make time plans, and increasing the efficiency of people by teaching them how to plan properly, how to prioritize tasks, and how to handle unexpected tasks. This is increasingly easy, particularly for students, as “books, articles, and time management training programs that were initially developed for managers have been made available to everyone”.(Claessens, Brigitte J.C. 2004).
When you control your time, and work more efficiently, you're able to learn more and increase your experience faster. Time management should also include more than teaching, scholarship, and service. Effective time management also means reserving time for recovery, and time for financial factors, time for family, and time for friends. Having a goal-oriented strategy that makes an effective use of your time will bring you success no matter how you look at it. There isn’t anything we can do about time itself. We can change how we deal with events
Distance learning, sometimes called e-learning, is a formalized teaching and learning system specifically designed to be carried out remotely by using electronic communication. People could find out distance learning on the internet or searching form the school, sometimes teachers would introduce the best or the most credibility distance learning web. Such as class.com and University of Phoenix, etc. Distance learning is less expensive and is not constrained by geographic considerations; it offers opportunities in situations where traditional education has difficulty operating. Students with scheduling or distance problems can benefit, as can employees, because distance education can be more flexible in terms of time and can be delivered virtually anywhere. Under the unified leadership of the distance learning education, the modern distance learning education work gradual increase the number of school has now reached a certain scale. However, not every school or any distance learning education has clear idea for the modern education. Many people have differences understandings and it formed a big deviation. It can be said, for the purpose of developing the distance learning education and the hopes has not formed a consensus, which leads to very often difficult to form in the actual work force.
Online learning is definitely one of the newest and fastest moving industries; more and more students are opting to getting their degree this way instead of going to a land college, mostly due to the convenience of the schedule, where before a full time employee, could not fit schooling into their schedule, but they are finding out now that they can do this through the online environment, so they are utilizing this alternative way of achieving their higher education. Yet, the online environment is unlike the land college, because there is no face to face contact, so the University of Phoenix tries to make the experience as realistic as it can by: 1) providing a rEsource for the students to go to for their writing projects; and 2) designing classes that simulate real life learning situations where students become part of a learning team, 3) and focus on problem based learning.

In a K-12 setting, distance learning or traditional learning requires careful planning that must take place in order for the educational process to work for the students. When we look at both forms of education there are still pros and cons to both. Although online learning has made a major impact in the world of education, many people have not accepted this form of education. One of the reason for their concerns is that students cannot get fast answers to their questions about the assignment from the teacher. Another concern is that the students cannot perform effectively in a group collaboration that is taking place online. Also, students may not effectively do their homework from an online program. Lastly, some families do not have the technology at home for online learning.
