Industrialization was the result of lots of new machines and inventions happening in America. It happened in the 18 and 19 hundreds and caused cities to grow and immigrants to come. Some of the leaders of this time were George Eastman and John Rockefeller. Industrialization had a negative impact on U.S. society because it led to poor working conditions, child labor, and bad tenement conditions. Industrialization was negative because of the bad working conditions it led to. This includes the low wages, locked doors, and narrow hallways. Because the workers received low pay, they couldn’t support their family and provide themselves with basic needs. “Most factory women earned 1-3 dollars a day. A factory worker could not expect to receive decent pay(Entry 15).” This only proves workers had a hard time getting paid. Also, factories had locked doors and narrow hallways. Industrialization brought immigrants to the U.S. hoping to start a new life. However, these immigrants were poorly educated and most couldn’t even speak english. “Many of them were not educated.(Entry 12).” Because of this, immigrants couldn’t find jobs and they became poor. Now that they were in poverty, they had to turn to robbery to get basic needs and as a result, many immigrants were criminals. “Bad reputation as criminals(Entry 10B).” This quote proves that immigrants were known as thieves. Also, immigrants who did get jobs took job opportunities away from Americans. “Many immigrants took American jobs for low pay(Entry 12).” Since immigrants were willing to take jobs for such low pay, they were most likely to get the position, therefore, putting Americans jobless.
