This article by the authors Shawn Ginwright and Julio Cammarota talks about the discrimination among young people. They explain how some public policy describe youth as delinquents, criminals and also as the main causes of the majority of civil problems. They explain that people tend to express about young people in certain types of ways because of the way some youth act. These policy refer particularly to youth of color as a menace to society. Those stereotypes toward young people, especially toward people of color, can be something related to racism. But the causes of why youth act the way they act is because of the issues that they have, including identity, racism, sexism, police brutality, and poverty along with unfair economic policies. This topic is very interesting to me because how are juveniles being treated like criminals at a very young age, when they have done nothing wrong. The main keywords in my research are school to prison pipeline, race and inequality in education, racial discrimination, and disability. The sub keywords in my paper are the negatives of low income juveniles being affected, while the middle class and upper class are being affected in a positive way. By considering the negative and positive approach of School to Prison Pipeline we can see that a group of juveniles are having better lives while the other group of juveniles are entering the criminal justice systems and forever will be labeled as a criminal.
In his novel Punished: Policing the Lives of Black and Latino Boys, Dr. Victor M. Rios aims to demonstrate the catastrophe of criminalization, the flops of using cruel and humiliating punishments that attempt to “‘correct’ and ‘manage’ marginalized youths” (p. 23), and to display the consequences that these practices will have on the paths that teenagers take. He does this by documenting parts of his experience in observing forty boys of Black and/or Latino who are “heavily affected by criminal justice policies and practice” (p. 8). Then, he clarifies how these flaws impacted the boys in these situations. The aim of this essay is to summarize Dr. Rios’ observations and analyze and critique the primary arguments made in the book.
The "youth control complex" is one of the concepts presented by the author to analyze young people 's lives. As mentioned in the book, it is "a ubiquitous system if criminalization molded by the synchronized, systematic punishment meted out by socializing and social control institutions"(p.40). It is a person 's normal daily behavior become ubiquitously treated as deviant or even criminal behaviors. Writers John Stossel and Frank Mastropolo, both working as a correspondent and journalist in ABC News, open their article highlighting the accomplishments of Bruce Marrow, a radio personality legend who “has been on the air for decades,” “Introduced the Beatles at the New York Shea’s Stadium,” and “was credited with helping push oldies station WCBS-FM to number one” (Stossel). However, the writers ended the paragraph talking about how legend Bruce Marrow, despite his endeavors, had been abruptly fired without any warning three years ago. They then continue to apply the same scenario to Kansas City DJ’s Max Floyd and Tanna Guthrie from 99.7 KY. The main reason why Stossel and his co-writer had decided to brusquely end the first paragraph of the article, it is not to embarrass Bruce Marrow or Max Floyd or Tanna Guthrie, but instead, to identify whether it is fair for people to get fired, even after they help build a company, just because they are getting old. The writer’s thesis starts off effective, but the bitter, harsh tone undoes its effectiveness.

In year 1967, the federal Age Discrimination in Employment Act ADEA was passed to prohibit discrimination against workers over age 40 and older. Another law in the year 1964, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that prohibits employment discrimination on the basis of sex, race, color, religion, or national origin. However there are still age discrimination and it seems to be more especially for older women more than older men.
