Dilemmas Facing the People of Norway Today

Norway is a country with a long and interesting history. They are the descendants of Vikings. They managed to survive being occupied by Germans in World War II, even fighting back as well as they could. Now they are dealing with the same issues that many countries are dealing with, how to interact with the rest of the world in this new age of global connectivity. They are trying to find the balance between progress and trying to maintain their cultural uniqueness. In this increasingly technologically fueled society, how can they manage to maintain interpersonal relationships? Where should the line be drawn between technology and nature? Which one should be given the preference? These are all dilemmas facing the people of Norway today.
Norway belongs to a group called the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). This is a group that has close ties to the European Union (EU) without actually being a member. They are granted many of the benefits of the EU, and they incorporate most of the rules of the EU into their laws. The EFTA is currently made up of the countries of Switzerland, Iceland, Lichtenstein, and Norway. Some of the main benefits of the EFTA agreement include free trade of industrial products and improved market access to the agricultural products. Land transportation between member states of the EFTA is in the process of being opened up so that there will be open road and railways between the states. There are also special agreements that allow airline companies to have access to properties in the other member states. The group has extended very high protection of intellectual property rights, fighting against copyright infringement, counterfeiting, and piracy.
